I saw a 2002 GMC Sierra for sale with a blown Duramax. I was looking at AM General's Optimizer 6500 crate engines and was wondering if this would swap in and mate up to the 6 speed and other mounts. Would this even be worth doing? If so would the electronics be a nightmare? Any info would be great.

Seems you are going backwards, most of us want to repace a 6.5 with the Duramax not the otherway around.

put a dmax in it, dont go backwards. Motors are relatively easy to come by.
I think the Optimizer 6.5 is completely different than the old chevy/gmc 6.5 that you are thinking of. It's made by AM General. Check out this site: http://www.amgeneral.com/vehicles_gep_productinfo.php
It's mostly mechanical so that's why I was thinking it would be a reliable/bulletproof swap. I also want to be able to crank on it w/o dealing with a bunch of wires and ECM's :D. Just wanted to see if anyone had any hands on experience with one.

Your still further ahead dropping in a dmax. Shoot me a link to that truck if you end up not being interested. If you do get it, I'll see if I cant help you with parts etc.
Great, thanks a lot guys! I'll probably just stick with the D-max. I was looking into the prices of the Optimizer and its some serious $$$.
