I have hear for several years that for those of use with the smaller 26 gallon fuel tanks we can increase it by getting the 38 gallon OEM tank and replacing the smaller tank. Is this true will it fit? I got the size and took a tape measure under my truck and it doesn't appear that it would fit. What is the straight scoop?

On Dodges the long bed tank fits under the shortbed trucks.
THe GM long bed tank is 34 gal.
There are a couple of aftermarket 38 gal tank out there for the short bed trucks (lots a $$$$ >$700.00 IIRC).
There are 50 - 60 gal tanks for the long bed trucks too.

Thanks Carey; that's right 34 gallons which would be better than 26 gallons. I had heard in the past that the 34 gallon tank will fit a short box.....but I don't see how. I have checked out the replacements and yeah $700 to $1100 so far I have lived with fueling more often.

Here is my solution a little of a PITA I have (4) 5 gal cans in the bed when I fill up carry all on long trip or use when fuel goes cheap locally, xfers to the tank are a pain; but $5.99 cans vs $700-1000 it's worth it to me.

I'd look at putting one in the front of the box
SHould be able to get a 50 gallon mounted up there and not lose to much space. I also have put a blazer/suburban tank under my bed where my spaer tire mounts, but that was on a older truck. Just look at a like year/style tahoe/suburban. might work but then whatcha going to do with the spare

16gaSxS,
If you want the measurements of my 34gal tank let me know.
I'm sure the Dodge boys did it by trying it.

I've seen it done on a regular cab 1990 SB C1500 gasser. 26 gallon out, 34 gallon in. No problem. I don't know if the extended cab or the diesel would make any difference, but it doesn't seem likely. On the new body style trucks it's a whole nuther story. I it was possible I'd have already done it.

I only have a 6 1/2 foot bed and when I go hunt desert Quail I have two dog boxes in the back and if I move stuff around I have enough room for both dogs and my air mattress and sleeping bag inside the topper. If I put a tank in the bed of any size then I lose my sleeping in the bed option. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Okay for a 34 gallon tank 62"x17"x141/4" it says right on the page WILL NOT FIT SHORT BED TRUCKS. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

the 26 gallon tank is 13 1/2 inches shorter. There is a bit more room in the spot the tank fits but not over a foot.Edited by: 16gaSxS
