: HOLY COW! Can this be right?
Redbone 12-23-2006, 10:32 PM Just got my Evo installed a couple of days ago and I've been putzing around with it on level 1. Matter of fact I haven't installed the pyro yet or the pod. The display is sitting on my dash.
Anyhow, I had to make two trips today from the shop. They were both approximately 70 miles or so, one way. All Interstate miles only. Great chance to compare fuel mileage on all levels. Here are the results:
Trip 1, Level 1 - 18.4 MPG
Trip 1 Return, Stock - 17.9 MPG
Trip 2, Level 2 - 18.0 MPG
Trip 2 Return, Level 3 - 27.4 MPG !!!!!!!
Returning home from the shop is another 26 miles which is stop and go driving, I finished with 22.6 according to the DIC.
Now for the disclaimers:
1) All mileages are according to the DIC, which was reset after each leg.
2) I am running 265's and have not corrected for tire size. (Does the Evo have this feature?)
3) I have not hand calculated to verify any numbers.
4) I have previously calculated about a 3.7% difference in odometer miles compared to known distances. Is this about right for 265's vs. 245's?
5) All segment were run with the cruise set on approx. 62 MPH the entire trip.
Even if the above Level 3 numbers turn out to be BS, I think the Evo is INCREDIBLE!:D The power delivery is MUCH smoother on Level 3 compared the 2805 Flashpaq Level 3 I had been running. For anyone on the fence, there is no decision to make. The Evo is the only way to go.
tlee05 12-23-2006, 10:36 PM I would be intrested in seeing what mpg you get hand calculated. But if the DIC is even close to right that would be awesome.
mcnwil 12-23-2006, 10:38 PM I have been looking at the evo too. How does the dash mount look? Can you post some pics after your install?
Redbone 12-23-2006, 10:53 PM I haven't seen any MPG numbers from the Beta test guys or anyone else. I don't know if anyone else has seen anything like this, so I am perplexed and excited all at the same time. I do need to get the correct % difference in tire sizes to accurately hand calc the mileage. I will follow up with a full tank run on level 3 only to see if it repeats.
mcnwil, i will definatley post some pic's when I get the pod in. From just setting the empty pod on the dash, it doesn't look bad. Matter of fact the Evo display unit is smaller physically than I had imagined. It honestly would not look bad just velcroed to the dash were the pillar meets.
GMC2500HD 12-23-2006, 11:20 PM If you are going off the DIC then, no.. Those numbers are not correct. I can set my cruise and get 32 mpg on mine and I know it is not right @ 72mph mind you. Actually, hand calculated, I am getting close to 19 on the highway and about 16 in town.

Oh, Thanks a lot, Mr. Buzzkill!;) I guess I was curious because with the Flashpaq, the DIC was always very accurate compared to the hand calcs, when tire size corrections were made.
BTW, does the Evo correct for tire size? I've been to busy to read the manual (last resort, right?!:D )
Ben B 12-23-2006, 11:45 PM I seem to get better MPG on level 1, and even then, it is only 2-3 mpg better (according to DIC).
I have no idea how accurate it is, stock or with the Edge. I just fill it up when it's empty.
GMC2500HD 12-23-2006, 11:46 PM Not sure about the EVO. Well you would think by reading the other threads that claims about MPG with programmers and tuners are unfounded at best, so you will need to do hand calculations to get correct numbers since you have messed with the computer and it will not reqister correctly. ;)
Did not mean to kill your buzz...:D
LeroyR 12-24-2006, 03:13 PM I get about the same with my EVO in level 1 as compared to stock - sometimes a little better, but traffic around here isn't really consistent. Level 2 - slightly less than stock, but that has to do with the foot and the seat of the pants more than the traffic. ;) I've only used level 3 a few times and the mileage (actual) was less. I was also taking readings when we switching to winter fuel, so it's rather difficult to ascertain.
graniteBLUEMAX 12-25-2006, 08:25 PM The dic is average mileage, If i reset my mileage before i hit the freeway guess what 22-23, intown 15-16-my average 18.6
Last fill /pump within .2 gallons of what the dic said.
bully dog triple dog /outlook mon. speedo dead on with outlook and gps.
We bought these trucks because they sound cool and have lots of power
ps the right foot can change all of the above.
crash55 12-25-2006, 09:35 PM I had a Predator(85 HP) and switched to Evo (100 HP) I really like both, but the Evo is honestly getting better fuel mileage. The fuel is the same because I have my own 1,000 gal on road diesel tank with Power Service in it(Summer Fuel). I have been really slow to say some thing about my MPG, because it don"t seem right. On the Interstate and cruise set at 72 mph, I have got 24.3 MPG (hand calculated) on a 200 mile trip. I haven't said any thing, because I wanted to check it a couple of more times to verify. Around town I am getting 16/17 MPG and playing with it :D .
This is my second LBZ and the 2006 truck got 15(city) and 19(hwy). Need to make another few trips before I really can believe anything close to this on the 2007 truck. Yes you can adjust the tire size, etc. with the Evo.
hemisareslow 12-26-2006, 01:07 AM ok...maybe i am living under a rock...but EVO? what programer is that
8100 Power 12-26-2006, 01:44 AM ok...maybe i am living under a rock...but EVO? what programer is that
Edge Evolution....:)
hemisareslow 12-26-2006, 03:06 AM ahhhhh I thought so...but wasn't quite sure..how is it different than the juice/attitude?
hemisareslow 12-26-2006, 03:09 AM never mind....just looked it up on edge's site...looks pretty neat
GMCTRUCK 12-26-2006, 08:11 AM DIC is no longer accurate once a tuner or plug in box is installed.
