Has there been any limits set on when you should change out your stock head bolts for ARP Head Studs, and are LBZ any different than the other engines. Thanks in advance. Brian

I think anything over 550hp or 45-50lbs of boost on a LBZ would be a good idea to put head studs in. People may have run higher but i would rather do it right the first time then have to pull the heads off to replace head gaskets.

The headstuds for the LB7 LLY and LBZ are all the same.

usually a good all around rule of thumb is anything over 50psi requires head studs

Stock bolts hold a lot of boost. I've talked to many with a TON of cyl. pressure/drugs/high boost and the stock bolts hold. Rods are bending before gaskets go.

I'll be running 55 pounds again soon on stock bolts. I'd rather use the head gaskets as a safety relief and not the rods.

If you're going to run aftermarket studs, make sure you retorque after a few heat cycles. I've heard of quite a few blown gaskets using aftermarket studs because of no retorque.

Just my .02

the stock head bolts are TTY and should not be reused

Studs should be able to be reused, OEM bolts are throw away upon removal

well if you have to ever remove the heads then yes get the arp. dont make sense to pay for something over and over again (like diesel).

Thanks guys, you answered my question without having to ask it, I plan on getting a PPE boost controller and going to about 32 PSI.

Been running 48-50 psi for 6 months now without any problems.
