Seems like there is no middle ground on this subject. Im talking about rattles. Some people could care less, rattles never bother them. On the other hand, there are people like me that the slightest rattle makes me wanna punch a baby. I think i literally turn psycho lol
Seriously, it pisses me off that a newer $45,000 truck would rattle. Most of them came from the radio, the drivers door, the back seat and the rear right door.
Another thing that bothered me was probally the cause of alot of the rattles...Anyone notice that when you go over bumps that it sound like the doors lose their seal? like they just aren't tight enough? Well on my truck, they were not.
Its an easy fix tho, simply adjust the strikers. I started with the rear doors on my extended cab. Simply moved them in about 1/8-1/4 inch. Once the door looked like it lined up with the roof and rocker panel even and tight, your done. then do the same with the front doors.
This tightened up the truck more then i could have imagined...makes it feel new again. I highly recommend it.
Next thing i did with fix the other rattles. This is kinda just me rambling on, so ignore it, or use it for ideas...
I used:
double sided 3M foam tape
Duct tape
clear packing tape
random bolts
Torn up pieces of towels
White lithium and think grease
I noticed there are a couple major items that like to rattle.
First one is the push rods for door openers and locking mechanism. This was causing a lot of rattles in the rear doors and drivers doors. Many were fixed simply by tightening the rods via the adjustment threads. Others i would apply another method, either adding weigh with duck tape or even if needed, taping a bolt onto the rod to weight it down. On The driver door, the rod for the manual lock if routed through several plastic holders. On mine the rod had become lose and was rattling inside there. I wrapped a small amount of clear packing tape around the metal in these areas and the rattle went away.
The next area was all the plastic push pins that are used to hold the wire bundles to the door. All of them were very lose. I pulled them out put a think piece of foam tape there and shoved them back through.
Also, a small piece of duct tape of the the wire bundles keeps them from moving and thus rattling.
Last one was the plastic and plastic contact from the inner door panel and dash pieces... some hidden duct tape to provide a media between the two plastic fixed this right up.
I know some people wont care at all, but if rattles bother you, go out and find them, fix them and be happy!
