would you guys always recommend driving in "D" all the time? even with an unloaded trailer?

Towing in 3rd is safer than in OD, I think. Not only the tranny would have better cooling, 4th/OD, I´ve been told here, is the weakest gear. I would even tow an unloaded trailer in 3rd; imho, taking the risk of transmission damage isn´t worth the minor advantages of towing in 4th.

I tow in OD with out incident 65-70 mph.
Since you have the nonturbo model, might I suggest headers?

I've towed close to 100,000 miles using OD. Total transmission mileage is 214,000.

Always in OD while towing, with the exception of a tough climb; no problems.
