Well it took way too long to get to the repairs but very little time to complete them. One wire needed a section replaced and the rest just needed insulated as they had no damage to the wires, just insulation chewed off.
I have to say that I am more than a little pi$$ed of at the dealer and maybe more so the technician. I know they were slow when I was there but to expect $400 for a customer pay repair that MAY have taken me two hours to do at my pace, is a little bit of a rip off. This was after I had paid the $250 charge for them to find the problem, again, seems a little steep?
When I say at my pace, let me explain that I am sure that because I own the truck, I was WAY more anal about my use of liquid electrical tape and heat shrink that a technicial would be that is going to get a percentage of the $400 now matter how quickly he gets it done. I pulled every damaged wire out of the connectors they were in and slid a generous length of heat shrink down the wires after heavily coating them with the liquid electric tape. The twisted pair wires that were damaged recieved the same carefull treatment and were twisted back at the exact twist locations as they were when I un-twisted them. Everything was routed exactly the way as it was when I started on the project. In other words, I worked on it like I own it!!!
Please understand that I am NOT trying to start an "I hate mechanics" thread here, but I really do feel that because this was a customer pay job and not warranty and this technician was assuming that I know nothing, I feel the quoted time way WAY more than it should take a person with good skills to complete the repair.
Really makes me question the check out time too!! I've charged less labor to split a tractor and replace a clutch!
Just glad the Dually is all better now and now it has a nice clean garage to sleep in with lots of bait blocks and traps around it!
