: Headlight Boosters, any good?

Does anyone have the headlight boosters installed, like t he ones Kennedy Diesel sells? Do they make any difference? Would you buy them again? I'm not questioning the quality of the kit parts, but rather does it make a noticiable difference in the light output.

Thanks,

Jim

Yes

Did the Painless Wiring upgrade on the '04.....noticeable difference. Good product, easy install. The improvement was so noticeable that I could easily get addicted to lighting upgrades.Would try the Kennedy harness next time to see if it is an even further improvement... I have absolutely no doubt as to the Kennedy harness quality. I would buy it with confidence. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif</v:stroke></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:f></v:ulas></v:path><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shape>

I was working at a job site which was 55 miles from my house, and I had to leave at 0300. I decided to add Kennedy Harness Kit to my HD Truck. What a big difference! And I could not believe all the wild animals that I was not seeing before, especially deer. If you drive on rural roads and highways at night I highly recommend this improvement. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Had the Kennedy harness for almost 3 years and it is fabulous. Too lazy to remove it from truck when I sold it so I will need to order one for a 05 as soon as John answers my emails as to if they are the same. Great product that is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE in my book if you ever plan to drive at night.

I'll ask Kennedy also, what I'm wondering is would that harness work on my wife's 2001 Blazer? She always complains about the poor headlights. You'd think the wirings the same.

Worth every penny, might think about upgrading the bulbs also.

Try this link for bulb info

It works with any car/truck light systems
that use the 9005/9006 bulbs. Caspers Electronics
has the harness too for about $135. Part number 102064.

hope this helps,

I was not lucky enough to get the good bulbs when I got mine from John, but have heard that they were much better. But even though I did not get the good bulbs, these do help quite abit. They could stand to be a lot better, but I can live with them. Would I do it again, knowing what I know now? Maybe, but I doubt it. $200 is a lot to spend for what I got.

For $151.31+ whatever shipping is going to be( I was told about $15)- I got the headlight harness and the hard to find Rally Phillips bulbs (2 70W and 2 100W) from DSG Canada. Needless to say I am very happy with thathttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Guys,

I see that everyone who has done the hardness upgrade seems happy, however has anyone just upgraded the bulbs. I was in a part store -- pep boys or auto zone.. not sure .. light upgrade for $39 bucks for high and about the same for lows.. so for $80 you can upgrade the llights ... which is less then JK $205...

just wondering if anyone has done that ??

Couple things to consider. One the harness allows the low beams to stay on when you excite the high beams giving you a four light system.

Also do to the extra electrical draw of the higher wattage lamps and four light system the relays are powered up direct of the Alt or battery taking away the possibility of the OE switch and light wiring problems down the road.

Come on out to the North East Get Together in September and you are welcome to check out my harness.

Your South of me not by much and we can caravan if you'd like with some others.

Actually Mackin, the factory system uses relays as well. There is no stress on the headlight switch at all. (99-current)

as i said i did just the harness and that alone was an amazing difference... i dont know if it would be wise to put bigger bulbs in without upgrading wireing..... Mac care to comment on what happens when you put in higher wattage bulbs????

Max Power

The only problem is that when you start pushing higher voltage to the bulbs they will burn up faster and in some cases blow up. The lower voltage the longer they will last. But IMO it's a small price to pay for brighter bulbs.

If you take a low life bulb such as the silverstars and add more voltage the reduced life might make it not worthwhile.

Near Bethany.Wont give my Eaxct Local to many weirdo's but I can Walk to where I mention.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

The headlight harness has it's own set of relays as you can see in my Pics.

The harness has beefier wires to aid in electrical demand of the higher wattage lamps. The biggest key with the harness is all FOUR headlights will be on when the high setting on the stalk is chosen lighting up your path.

I have blown up a Silver star lamp in my headlight bucket which destroyed it,price one ,I dare ya.

I balked too saying there has to be a cheaper way

I played around with the CHEAP'O stuff and blew my ECM fuse trying to get away with not spending the coin on the headlamp booster, scary.

Finally enough was enough and I bought the Headlight booster that JK sold, nice ,real nice piece.

The chose is always yours.

So what bulbs are you guys using with JK's harness?

BassinRVer
08-06-2004, 02:15 PM
We are using the Rally bulbs, JK just to be able to get them but know the only place that has these sre at the link below. These are 70 Watt lows and 100 Watt highs. You may have to call them to make sure you get the 70 and 100 Watts bulbs because these links only shows 55 and 65 watts. I ordered from them in May or June and got the 70 and 100's.

Hey Guys....

The 9005 is the high beam right? Well i know of alot of ppl that use the 9005 in the low beam socket and in High...then when you get the kit..you ahve extra powewrful light.....

I myself..I just run the high beam lights in the low beam socket and adjust my light up real far..so when someone gives me a lil falsh thinking i have highs on i give em a Real High, lol but anyways..just by adjusting the lights up makes a hella a difference...

Will this system work if you have your high and low beams wired together so that all lights are on in the high postition? Just don't want to overload the system, but I do like having all those lights on...Easier to see.

Yes "with" the harness all four lights will be on in High Beam mode.

I'm no cheerleader but Kennedy Diesel sells the harness for the same price, please consider our vendors "if" you would, thanks.

Works in either 2 beam or 4 beam mode, depending on which direction you install a diode.

If I'd of known you were curious, I could have showed you yesterday.

Great investment by the way. Mine came from Kennedy, along with plenty of spare bulbs. I only seem to go through one leaw beam a year, which is not too bad.

Hey guys....another "will this work" question. My buddy Mark's 1997 Camaro. H4351 lows and H4352 highs...these lamps have the same connectors as the bulbs, but they're the WHOLE LIGHT. The bulb inside looks just like the 9005's and 9006's. What's up with that? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I wonder if the harness would work with these, but can't find any info on interchange or compatibility. Since we've figured out it'll work with any 4-beam GM setup...I wonder?

Tom http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Pig.gif

ON EDIT: as I was cruising the net, I came across a forum for HID lights, and they describe these lamps in detail. They are identical to 9005/9006 lamps. So...I have my answer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: TheBac
