well last night finally pick up my truck. idles fine no more smoke. :) just had all 8 injectors replaced at a diesel performance shop. stealer was twice the price. (now i know why) here is the story so far. picked it up last night ran fine drove 9 miles to get home side roads nothing over MPH. when I got home and stopped in the drive I could here a sloshing sound under the hood. oil pressure down to psi. shut her off and started looking. could not see a leak but could smell fuel. pulled dip stick and 6" above full mark. I drained out 5.5 gallons of fuel/oil. I called the shop and they were dumbfounded had no idea. :blahblah: added more oil. drove the truck back to shop. he wanted me to take it to a Friend of his at the dealer. he drained out 6 gallons of fuel/oil. I drove it to the dealer. 2.6 miles.he checked it out with his scanner only thing that he found way off was #8 balance rate was 13.5 other 7 cyl. were at 6.4-6.5. took it back to the performance shop. told them the news. they started looking at #8. called me a few hours later. said they pulled valve cover all lines looked good. said with the return rate so high that the injector is bad.:(

?? QUESTION what is the likely hood of a new injector being bad. (anything is possible) I know. but what could have been done during the installation that could cause this problem. ?? if the injector was dumping that much fuel into the cyl. why no smoke or bad smell out of exhaust. and idle and run fine:(

I told him I wanted the old injector what do I need to look for. to see if it was installed wrong. I bought the injectors from dynomite diesel in wa. and having the work done in Houston TX.

it has to be leaking fuel into the engine and not the cylinder possible cracked injector housing but would almost guess that they where bench tested before sent out. most likly cause they didn't install the return lines correctly.

Who did the work in Houston? Would like to know who to stay away from, if I ever need injectors replaced on my dime.

Course, if they take care of you, and learn how to do it right in the process, might be good to know who could do it right for half the price of the dealer.

where did they get the injectors from?

The only thing I ever found with the factory remans is I had some damaged threads where the fuel feed line connects.

What they should do is put some oil dye in the fuel filter, run it for a couple min with the valve cover off, then they could see exactly where its leaking.

Someone should compile a list of dealers to stay away from by State they're located.

Except it wasnt a dealer that did the work. It was an independent shop.

Word from GM is that when injectors are replaced, they are replaced according to the vin # of the truck. In other words all injectors are not alike by the year.

not going to say any thing bad just yet there still working on truck. but would like a better explanation as to the install procedure of the injector to get an idea of what can get over looked during the install. they told me all the return lines looked fine. when i look at the injector what physical signs to see if it was damaged during install.

Here is my $.02. I wouldn't go blaming the install. It is rather possible that the injector just failed and stuck open..or maybe something got in it and jammed it open. I take it you bought performance injectors? Perhaps a call to the place that you got the injectors from will reveal a bad batch that got out? As for the possibility of getting a bad injector, it does happen. And with as many injectors that are going bad in our trucks, it is bound to happen more frequently than other vehicles. Now, I am not saying that the shop didn't do something wrong...but if they make it right...does it really matter? If they are charging you extra to fix it, then I would not go back. But if they fix the issue, there is not much to complain about. Sure it sucks that you are without your truck for however long it takes. But the outcome is what matters. If the shop didn't tell you right off the bat that it wasn't their fault, and it would cost more to re-fix it, they will more than likely work with you to make it right. Though if they did not supply you with the injectors you will more than likely have to do some leg work to make everything work.

Once again, just my $.02. I don't wish problems on anyone, and I hope your issue is resolved quickly.

how many miles on ur LB7. injectors are warrantied to 200,000 miles for 01-04 duramax engines. GM knows they have a problem with these injectors and are resolving this issue hence the LLY, LBZ, AND LLM. hardly any injector problems there. sounds like to me the person who put your injectors in at this independent shop didn't know what he was doing.

And I don't know anything about return rates (and hopfully don't have to for a long while...knock on wood), but the "good" injector rates of 6.4 and 6.5 sounds high. I read on here somewhere that the accepable return rates were much lower, 2 or 4?????
