: Predator power loss when going up levels?

Can anybody explain to me why my 01 feels noticably seat of the pants slower when I jump from the 65hp on my Predator to the 85hp setting? It also seems as though it shifts out of 1st gear sooner on the 85hp setting vs the 65hp. My only other mods are a swiss cheesed air box and a 4" turbo back exhaust. It was running good on the 65hp, then I put the exhaust on and bumped it up to 85hp. Drove around for about a week or to for everything to get learned, then started romping on it. It felt soft. So last night I put the 65hp back in and romping on it today, it feels noticably stronger. I can't explain it. Maybe somebody here can help. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is quite possible that the TCM is commanding the ECM to back down...........

In other words your tranny is not liking the 85HP tune and is telling the Engines computer to back the power down..........

Just a guess...........

Could I possibly give the TCM a cash bribe so it gives me full power or is there another way around it? I would be supprised if it's backing me down just with an 85hp tune. That would be lame. Are other trucks prone to the same issue or is it hit and miss depending on the truck. Just curious and still learning. Thanks for the input though. That though did cross my mind but I didn't think I was up on power enough yet to cause that.

Are you sure that the 85 tune was loaded? Can't remember off the top of my head the path, but you can check to see what tune is loaded.

As far as I can tell the only backing down the TCM does is "Limp or Zing" I'm currently running the 85 tune 'cause I limped the Alli in the 125.

The TCM is very adaptive........I noticed a huge difference with my tranny upgrade especially in 5th gear.......

The TCM will back down some with a tune loaded more so when you run a Box like the VA or EDGE.

Yes, the 85hp tune was loaded. Maybe i'm just losing it or something. So if the Alli goes in limp mode, does it throw a code that has to be reset and if so, will the truck run different until you do? I was thinking about putting the 125 tune in there out of curiousity, but don't want to limp it if it's something i'm gonna have to get reset. Thanks.

Sets a code and lock's in 3rd. You will know!!!

I loaded the 125 out curiosity also...5000 miles later I'm looking to get a suncoast. Some have gone longer.

You should feel a differance between the 65 and the 85. I'm not sure why you don't.

I've been running the 120 tune on mine for about 30,000 miles and haven't had any issues with my transmission yet. Even spent one day at the track.

So after you set a code, how do you reset it? Is there a tuner out there like the predator that will reset the TCM also? Thanks.

Predator doesn't read TCM. Quad's tuner will read and clear TCM.

Just shuting the truck off and restart will take it out of Limp. You will still get the SES light. If I remember correctly the SES light went off in about 2 days but the code was still in the TCM a day later when Wickedsprint and I meet-up so that we could use his Quad to check and erase the code.

I beleive Autozone will also check and erase TCM codes for free.

Or the codes will reset themselves, after a certain number of ignition cycles, if the don't see that condition again.

When I first downloaded mine I kept getting overboost error codes. I call predator and sent my unit in for an update on the software and have had zero problem after. I did notice that with the new software it ran much better and shifted much smoother. I played around with the different settings and in the 85hp setting the shift points are alot different. I didn't notice a power loss from 65-85. On the other hand I could boil my 305/70/16 BFG's like a rock star on the 85hp setting. I run mine in the economy mode all of the time and I'm very pleased. The only time I change it is when I'm towing.

You may want to give them a call...
