Anybody have an idea? Is the 02 wiring different? Fuse? relay? what controls the diming lights?

I think the fuse you are looking for is in the d/s fuse panel. check them with a test light. You might also have a bad rheostat(dimmer wheel). Check the fuses first.

all associated instrument fuses are not blown, would it be listed under a weird fuse? Also, the diming wheel will turn on the interior lights when all the way up, just no backlight diming, hoe would you test the wheel? Is there a circuit that the diming wires connect to or anything?

to me it sounds like you need a new dimmer switch.

If it is the fuse, your rear tailights should be out! That is the reason why all of your interior lights go out on your dash, to warn you that you have no rear tail lights. You might want to check fuses for the rear tail lights. If the dimmer switch works for the overhead lights, it is not blown. Your problem is very common, and should not be that difficult to fix.

This certainly wasn't the case for me when it was my TBC2A fuse. Maybe you mean a different fuse, but with TBC2A blown everything else electrical was fine - all exterior lights, all electrical accessories, everything except most dashlights and the 4x4 indicator LEDs.

You can easily and quickly check all fuses with a test light. You should turn the key to the on position, ground the test light, then (with the fuses still plugged in) probe each side of the fuse (the small metal strip visible on each side of the amp rating number). If both sides light up the fuse is good, (in your case, with your problem you would want to turn on the parking lights) If neither side light up that circuit is not being used, if one side lights up and one side does not you have found the blown fuse. You can check all the fuses in the d/s fuse panel and the engine compart in just a few minutes by using this method. If all fuses show to be good, pull the instrument panel cover and test the dimmer switch using an ohmmeter. All the way down should read infinite, all the way up should read close to zero. Roll the switch up and down a few time and look at your meter for a glitch. I bet one of these to things is the problem.
