Help...I need some pointers on what may be the cause of coolant loss. I had and low coolant warning and looked at the temp, just under the 210 mark. Took 1gal of dexcool to refill. Drove maybe 10-15 mi on I-40 and came on again. Pulled over and noticed coolant in the drivers side wheelwell, looked under and can see coolant on upper control arm. Can't seem to locate the main source of the leak, am hoping its not a freeze plug. Hopfully its just a hose, or loose clamp. Any idea's? I am 180 mi away from home up near the Grand Canyon in Williams AZ no place here to repair. Thanks,

Same thing just happened to me. It was the water pump and was replaced under engine warranty. 100$ deductible.

Take the radiator (bottle) filler cap loose. It will not build pressure and blow out the coolant as fast . Perhaps it will bet you home that way.

Oil cooler, ick. What sort of damage does the antifreeze do to the engine? Does the oil show white?

Patrick, thanks so much for your expert advisement. I am going to limp it home and take it in for service in the am. I have plenty of water to keep it topped off for the trip back home.

Ok Guys,

I have my truck in to find the source of the coolant loss. I asked my Service writer if in fact the waterpump/oilcooler were covered under the 100,000 mi $100.00 deduct? He said he would check, came back after about 1/2 hr and said "no, it considered a maintenance." I need something to have that I can make my case with when they call me with the news. Thanks Guys,

The stupid water pump is gear driven. that doesn't sound like an "accessory" to me. It sounds like an internal engine part, which should be under the 100K warrenty.

An update for all, "stealer" called me this afternoon and told me they confirmed what this great site pointed to for the loss of coolant. "Water pump is leaking, we can have it going for you today if we get the pump with-in the hour. It will be $636.00. Well I did not like what I was being told, and informed them of the information I was getting from the Dieselplace.com. He said well here is an 1-800 number you can call and discuss it with them and they will call us after you talk to them. Not even 10 min went by before I had a chance to call the 1-800 number and the stealer called me back. " I've got good news, it is covered under the 100,000 mi." Your co-pay is $100.00, how's that sound?
Need I say more? Thanks Dieselplace member's, on a side note, Where is the link to help Nick keep this site going? A donation is in order on my part. Edited by: easymon4u

I would say the water pump should be covered...I was told all but sensors are cover 100k miles...
