I have a 04LLY that has a clicking noise when I shut the truck off. I took it to the dealer and he said it was normal? He said it was because of high compression, causing pullys to squeek. But the sound does not seem to be from them to me. IT sounds like that it is comming from the silver controll box mounted on the passanger side of the engine. Has any one else have the same noise or proublem? Should i be worried, or take to another dealer. Will it hurt anything, to the engine. Thanks for any help

curtis,
Is the silver box you’re referring to mounted above the front of the passenger side valve cover? If so it’s the FICM (fuel injection control module), which contains the drivers for the fuel injector solenoids. I have never noticed any noises coming from the FICM on my 03. Can you describe the noise in more detail? ... can it be heard in the cab or only with the hood open... how long does it last? ... is it only at shutdown? It is common for the belt to slip causing a chirp at shut down. There is also the infamous “tick” but that’s only heard when the engine is idling (most prevalent from the drivers side wheel well).
