Thanks for coming down today. Kevin is a real nice guy, and gave me the pleasure of seeing what he has done with his non-bose truck. We did a little testing on his sub and this is what we came up with for moderate level test tone response. The yellow curve is the corrected curve for radio shack SPL meter error. The system he has, he can describe, but his subs provided a near limit of 125 dB (open door) in the mid bass area. We put the SPL meter on the dash. It was fun. He admits the box is too small for the drivers, and that has been confirmed on modeling software, and the mid bass hump confirms that. Nonetheless it had very visceral 20 HZ feel, and those drivers are moving air. He notes the drivers have to be crossed at 60, no doubt that could be moved down to 50 based on these readings. Also adding stuffing was discussed, i think you will like the difference after putting in the fiberglass.

We discussed the bracing, or lack of, causing cabinet resonance and wave cancellation. An afterthought, something you can do without tearing the box apart is get some 1/2" dowel, and connect the front and back panel with it, in several places. Use a 1 ft long bit and drill holes in the exact position you need (through both panels in one shot) them and glue in place, after it cures, cut and sand down the dowels flush. This will stiffen the large baltic birch panels dramatically.
My conclusion is that this is a very acceptable arrangement, but for SQ purposes you might like it better stuffed, braced, and crossed at 50, even crossed at 50 this box will probably reproduce to 70-80 well because of the mis-alignment and subsequent hump. But to get flat response to 100, a bigger box for this driver.
A+ for getting high excusrsion dual 12's behind the seat of a CC. We didn't look much at the Boston separates, but I am liking it so much more than a "bose".Edited by: masterp2
