Just got a call this morning from the (Houston-area) dealer telling me my '02 D-Max Dually (60K miles) was ready to pick up. That sounded WAY too soon for it to be ready given the following events. Took it in on Friday - fuel flying and smoke blowing everywhere...you could literally see the gauge heading south as you drove down the rode waiting for the thing to go up in flames. My question is...shouldn't they (GM/Dealer) have changed out ALL the injectors instead of just the one bad one, if for no other reason than consumer safety??? My advisor told me he usually likes to go ahead & replace all the injectors, but the service manager nixed it this time around. Thoughts...comments??? Thanks & Happy Holidays!

Unless your fuel return rates are above normal, they will replace only the ones that are leaking because it costs GM too much to replace all of them at once unless they need it. Another one of the General's bright ideas! Would make more sense to save on labor costs to rep-lace all of them at once since it's apart, so who knows what they are thinking?!
They are thinking that the next time an injector fails, the 7 year warranty will have expired and you will foot the bill - not GM. It's really short term thinking on the part of the bean counters, because some of us won't be replacing our current trucks with another GM product. I see this injector problem as a disaster for both GM and myself. For GM because they will lose many potential customers for a very long time, if not forever. Its a disaster for me because the warranty will expire before my truck reaches 70,000 miles and it's very probable that I'll have to foot the bill for the injectors when they go. I'm not going to keep this truck past the seven year mark and I'm not likely have warm, fuzzy feelings for GM when I make the trade either.

They should have replaced all 8 as per special policy 04039. Just depends on who did the repair and what they found....if I wanted a comeback I might only replace one as well. Not knocking anyone, but I have had it happen.

I would have expected them to replace all 8....it may save them a few bucks now but will cost them in the long run.
