He's confused or lying to you.

LBZ's will continue to be built into early '07 but only in the "classics".

"old truck/old engine" "new truck/new engine"

Direct from GM website:

You said any diesel built after 1/07 will need new diesel ultra low sulfur fuel, but there are some Classics that will be built after 1/07 - which fuel will it need?
The old truck (the Sierra Classic) will in fact have the old emission system and use the old low sulfur diesel fuel. There is a short window where some Classics will be built after 1/07 but the government is allowing the old emissions to be installed on these vehicles – remember old truck, old emissions and new truck, new emissions.

he might be confused but there are some strange things going on here with the emission trucks i was told by our tt fleet supplier that they were just granted another extension till february so maybe gm is follwing the same line. either way i did question the dealer and asked him to look into this a little deeper because it didnt sound correct, i will know this afternoon along with the price of the new truck as well.

Nextlevel,
If something has just changed please let us know. I'd order a new 900 HD with LBZ in a heartbeat if it were possible.

I guess it's possible the truck manufacturers could have got a short term extension from the EPA if there were technical or logistic issues. I believe I did read that manufacturers could use up the existing supply of parts even if some of the build spills into '07. (however I thought they'd only do it in the classics)

I emailed GM. Here's what they said:

"Dave, the LBZ is not available in the new GMT900 pickup. The only offering for a diesel engine is the LMM which meets the new federal emission standard.

This could be true is we were talking about a G-Van. You would still have a small window of opportunity to order the old style LBZ as long as the vehicle was built prior to the last week of production on 1/26/2007."

Give salesmen the benefit of doubt. Sometimes they aren't intentionaly misleading you, they're just stupid.

I doubt very much that GM would install the LBZ in the 900 trucks. The design changes required to accomodate the old powertrain in the new trucks along with the logistical changes would create a nightmare at the plants. :Pshyco:

It would be nice, but I wouldn't bank on it.:(

I was talking to one of the guys at the local dealer and he said gm will be building the new engine coming Jan 1, but it will be in the old body style to begin with. They plan on running the 800 with the LMM until mid February, continuing to call it the classic.

gm has stopped orders on the "classic" style pickups and is only making the special orders for the customers. they all will have the lbz. all gmt 900 p/u will have the lmm only. new truck new motor. old truck old motor no exceptions.
