I was in the middle of Disassembling my 79 Ford HP Dana 60 and I can't seem to get the spindles off? Any tricks??

www.pirate4x4.com has a nice tech section on the home page with a complete 60 section, maybe it will help you

Are they rusted on? If you're replacing them anyway, beat them off. Spray some penetrating oil on them also and let them sit.

I use a heavy rubber mallet and hit all around the critter till it pops off.... I'm also assuming you removed all the nuts.

Sometimes a sharp chisel wedged between knuckle and spindle does wonders, just remember to hit chisel not the hand holding it.

ockgator has it right. Your best bet is to use one of those nice rubber coated dead blow hammers so you dont damage the threads on the spindle. You could also spray some penetrating lube around the back side where the spindle interfaces with the knuckle.

If they are that caked on there you'll also want to rebuild the spindle with new seals and bearing.

sometimes I forget the last part of those directions, lol. I managed to get them off by pressing all 5 studs out and taking a BFH and knocking the piss out of the caliper bracket till the caliper bracket, dust shield, and spindle all in one piece. Thanks!!

I've got an attachment for a slide hammer that threads on to the spindle makes them come off real easy plus no damage. I think I got it from snap on, but any tool company should have one.
