: H2 bandwagon
Wickedsprint 07-30-2004, 01:29 AM So I finally broke down and got a set of 5 H2s with about 500 mils on them and none obviously on the spare from a local resident. Thanks to Wabadmxsub (lawrence) for alerting me to the possibility of the owner wanting to sell. I did have to trim the front airdam slightly, no biggie, and I am only barely rubbing the drivers side inner front fender liner...easily fixed. Iam running stock keys turned up 7 turns, and just got it aligned today too. For those of you that have corrected your speedo meter, double check your tire height, they are NOT 34.5 inches on the rear wheels, if you put in 34.5 your speedo will read FAST, when actually measured they were a hair over 33 inches so I put in 33 to get a better average mileage count over the long haul of tire wear. I will take a pic tommorow, I still need stupoid centercaps, my steely wheel ones dont fit..too small.
WanaDmxsub 07-30-2004, 10:37 AM You can make those caps fit. Do a search for painted center caps. They are the same size.
My predator was dead-on when used to correct the speedo for the H2's. Did you check the speed with a GPS?
WASH THE TRUCK!!!
DMAX2DAMAX 07-30-2004, 10:44 AM I used the stealth tuner to set my 315/17's at 33" and they are dead on accurate when checked against interstate mile markers.
Wickedsprint 07-30-2004, 12:23 PM I ended up setting it for 33 inches. but BFgoodrich says they are 34.5, just telling people not to believe they are 34.5 inches tallwhen under the weight of the truck. Lawrence, are you sure the centercaps off the steel wheels are the same size as the ones off the aluminumones..mine are not big enough to take up the whole inside of the wheel..they actually leave a gap if in fact they could be made to work.
Have you tried to put #5 under the truck for a spare? I don't like spares in the bed so I still have the 245. I've been thinking if it will fit and I can get three other people to go in on a set I would buy a set locally for $500 and sell the others three for cost $125ea.
It looks like Kennedy is still on for Labor Day. That may be a good place for others interested to pick up a spare. I'm trying to go but the baby is due shortly after. I may be pressing my luck. The wife can deliver a baby in under 2 hours. I'd have no chance of getting home.
WanaDmxsub 07-30-2004, 02:44 PM Center caps from the "aluminumones" are smaller than the steel. The painted caps are the same size as the steel chrome caps.
Here look at this

What gap are you talking about?
Did you get the spare to fit?
DID YOU WASH THE TRUCK YET!?
Edski 08-30-2004, 11:36 AM H2 takeoffs (w/315 70R17) did not fit as a spare under my 02 xcab short bed. I tried last Saturday. After 9 turns on the T bars (~2.25 in) the right side still rubs on rear of wheel well (fender). Green keys are on order.
Wonder why it rubs on right side and not the left?
TEXMudder 08-30-2004, 10:41 PM Man those center caps make me not want H2 wheels. Any better matches for center caps out there?

Yes, If you use a rear wheel adapter you can use the factory H2 caps. A 1.5" per side makes room for the hub and solves that dorky GM look of the rear being narrower than front.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/3CE_Truck-Pic..gif

Where did you get your adapters ?? Did you have to cut the studs with the 1.5 inch or did they clear ??
Any thoughts on limitations as far as carrying capacity or possibility of damage (wheel bearings, etc) with the adapters.
TEXMudder 08-31-2004, 09:33 AM 1 inch spacers kill bearings on an ATV. I would assume 1.5s on a 7000 lbs truck would be even worse. You had any bearing problems?
H2 takeoffs (w/315 70R17) did not fit as a spare under my 02 xcab short bed. I tried last Saturday.
What didn't work? The diameter between the frame or hitting someting else?
Edski 08-31-2004, 03:10 PM It was too tight between the inside of the hitch/trailer wiring and the pumpkin. I was reading some old posts earlier today and Masterp2 stated that his H2 315/17 fit fine. Articles are here:

Maybe I didn't try hard enough. I'll go down to the barn tonight, fetch that 100# donut, and give it another try. I'll let you know how it goes.
It sounds like it fits. Now I just need to find three other people with H2's that need a spare so we can split a set!!!!
Looks like I keep asking the same question in the same post. I try that with the wife too with no luck!!!!Edited by: Jeli
cadent45 09-01-2004, 02:19 AM My truck came with steel wheels and the caps did not fit. However, the aluminum wheel caps fit just fine, you cut off the "pins" on the back side of the caps to get the caps to fit flush against the wheels.

Chevyfreek 09-01-2004, 08:54 AM Swanny,
I am running a set of 1-5/8" deep rear wheel spacers on my 2500HD and I had to trim the tip off the rear wheel studs. It was not do hard to do with an air powered cutting tool. Just takes a little time. Here is pic of the spacers:

Chevyfreek 09-01-2004, 08:59 AM Oh, I got my spacers from http://www.wheelspacer.com.
Checkout the albums link in my sig if you want to see more pics of the spacers...

Yes the studs do need cut (not the threaded part, just the end)
Manufacture says they do not reduce GVW
As for bearings talked to many people running them and no problems.
They can be found in aluminum at www.performancewheel.com (http://www.performancewheel.com)
or in steel at www.correctrack.com (http://www.correctrack.com)
Edski 09-02-2004, 09:39 AM Jeli,
I bought mine from the Hummer dealer in Cleveland for $125 ea. Brand new, mounted, balanced and with the caps (not that the caps are too useful). They would sell singles. I'm not suggesting you drive there from MN, but you may want to call some dealers near you. My drive to Cleveland was ~5-6 hours round trip...and worth it.

Ed, I too got mine from a Hummer dealer 5 mins away. I never asked about a 5th or single. I'll have to check.
