hdmax 07-30-2004, 11:42 PM So who will be the first to hit 1,000 hp with our Duramax 6.6L? How about a 10 second 1/4 mile run?
My guess on both would be KingD, I have thought this for a year if not longer. I always thought that 800 would come easy for someone with a little playing around cash. 1,000 will take a little more play money.

I ran levels 0-4 at the LA Dyno event that Mike L. put together last February. Very much inline with what others have obtained. Only puts me in the lower 300 HP club, but sure pulls the trailers nice.
See the results of the LA Dyno here:

i wouldnt go that far,the 10 sec 1/4 is a goal for the winter time project.gotta shed some pounds and get dropped down to the proper fightin weight so to speak.the problem is gonna be gettin 1000 hp on a dyno to hold for that long on the track to make that kinda pass.as of now i just dont see that happening anytime soon for me.but there are things in the works that may change my mind in the next few months.the rods and pistons and compression space is a problem.at over 700 hp the lp doesnt compress and the rods start getting shorter and then they bend and shiyat happens big time.things to think abouthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
hdmax 07-31-2004, 11:52 AM So King, just how much bigger/stronger are the rods in the Cummins then those in our Duramax? Or are they also replacing the rods?
Micheal Tomac 07-31-2004, 01:10 PM Injecting tons of alternative fuels and combustion aids like propane, water, methanol/alcohol, into any diesel motor will cause problems. Diesel fuel, propane, water & methanol/alcohol all have different burn characteristics and different burn rates than diesel fuel.Edited by: mtomac
king d 07-31-2004, 04:16 PM So King, just how much bigger/stronger are the rods in the Cummins then those in our Duramax? Or are they also replacing the rods? lot of difference in rods by not only lenght but mass as well.the cummins rods are much longer and thicker but they dont typically turn the rpms that the higher reving v-8 style diesel.i dont know if the big hp cummins have modified there rods or not....
Super Diesel 07-31-2004, 07:01 PM I don't think that N2O is the norm for a diesel either. I know it is an oxygen, but it also contains nitrogen. Whos got the 700hp Dmax on #2? Or even a 600hp. Untill that point, they need a little help. I'll get stronger head studs and see what it can do. Funny thing is, diesels have been using Propane and water/meth for better than 60 years with exellent results.
Kyle03D 07-31-2004, 09:01 PM not possible to use more diesel fuel instead of propane?
The big 1000 hp cummins don't run LP.
Has anyone shortened rods without using LP or Methonal?
Maybe using Diesel as only fuel keeps the rods and parts from having problems.
I know, It will take some R & D to get the fuel in there right.
I think 700 on diesel fuel would be way cooler than 900 on everything but the kitchen sink taped into the intake. Still amazing to see they do hold up to that Hp(at least for a lil while).
Super Diesel 07-31-2004, 09:47 PM Like I said, untill that point, they need a little help. Never seen a off the floor engine, totally stock, hold up to any thing nearly that close in HP (OR THE TORQUE) before. The engine can still fail at those # on #2 only aswell. More diesel being squirted in, means much more pressure to get up there. More fuel, more energy, more pressure. Question is, how much boost will we need to get up to those #, and keep temps down? With the turbo (turbos) that is required, what will spool up time be like? One off of each header, close to the manifold will help this greatly. Pretty tight down there though. AT any rate, a 900hp diesel is much more interesting than a 700hp one, but not by much. Edited by: Super Diesel

Only 200 more HP and tons more trq.... But hey who is counting....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Oh don't forget the amount of money it takes to get there...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
coalbucket01 08-01-2004, 01:54 PM I went with the 400 club, but as soon as some more goodies come from CA. and alittle more tweaking I think i can, I think I can, I think I can hit the 5 double 0.
Z71 Grizzly 08-01-2004, 11:16 PM I can't wait till someone figures out the full capabilities of the Duramax. Like big turbos and or twins and stronger engine parts in one to hold 800 or 900hp. I wanna see some Cummins guys shaking in their boots.
Burner 08-02-2004, 12:56 AM not possible to use more diesel fuel instead of propane?
The big 1000 hp cummins don't run LP.
.......... @ what ratio? They are not anywhere close to 17.5:1.
Go grab ya a built 5.9 (built very well) to 12:1 compression, put a bad a$$ tranns in it and slap a really good fuel system on it. That should yeild about 1,000 to 1,100 HP.
hdmax 08-02-2004, 01:20 PM I can't wait till someone figures out the full capabilities of the Duramax. Like big turbos and or twins and stronger engine parts in one to hold 800 or 900hp. I wanna see some Cummins guys shaking in their boots. I really don't think they will be shaking in their boots as you put it. There are Cummins putting down 1200 rwhp and maybe much more then that.
Z71 Grizzly 08-02-2004, 10:37 PM Nobody really knows yet, hdmax. I just have high hopes on this powerhouse of a motor. I know Cummins is a good motor but I'm a Chevy fan and I'm rooting for the Dmax. It's only a few years old compared to the already figured out Cummins. Somebody will get up there eventually once they learn more about the limits of all the internals. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
hdmax 08-03-2004, 12:31 AM Ops, wrong onehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Lets try this one more time. Hum, I can't seem to find it now. I'll have to look some more.
I like GM as well, but I am a truck enthusiast first, then GM. I also like Ford and Dodge about as much. And regardless if you admit it or not, right now the Cummins is so far ahead of the Duramax, it isn't funny.
Remember one thing. The GM trucks are trying to compete with the Cummins in the street class at the truck pulls. Once we get to a level playing field there, then we have to go after the hot diesel class. And that is what will take some time. I would guess 2 years minimum, and maybe never.
But I am confident that someone with very deep pockets and a desire to win with the GM truck will get us close. Money will buy just about anything. One thing that will help in the front axle department is these.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/EE4_half03.jpg
I know there hasn't been much problem with the factory ones, but no one has been at the 1000-1500 rwhp and 2000-2500 ft lb tq as of yet.

http://www.truckworld.com/Monster-Trucks/Monsters-Monthly/2000-may/2ton-a.jpg
The open class pullers bairly have anything stock left in them, so I doubt keeping the ifs would be considered. But hey, no one has done it. Maybe they could hold up to a 6000 rpm rocket launch out of the holehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
king d 08-03-2004, 04:56 PM there is a local off road shop that has done several solid front axle conversions.looks good and seems to be holding up well to the abuse of big tires lift and beach running .i was considering it for mine but it is too pricey for me

I have seen more then a couple hot diesel class Dodge trucks with differentials like that one.
Z71 Grizzly 08-03-2004, 11:15 PM I think Mitchell's one truck has an axle like that in theirs. I know it's a stout one since that truck is not street legal. It's got a blocked rear end and hollow bed in it.
