I just purchased a new Silverado-my first diesel. Anyone have any suggestions as to what my first under-hood modification(s) should be?

I would get a set of gauges for your truck, boost and pyrometer are import. Air intake, such as and AFE. Then a 4" exhaust system. It wouldnt hurt to add a secondary fuel filter. Then on to a box or programmer for more power!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Welcome to the forum. You might have to go to one of those CT dyno days. Watch out for that Mackin guy, hes a little crazy!!!

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif WELCOME!! I'd say chip or programmer and air system. Everyone in this forum love the edge, but I have never tried it. I have a hypertechhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif, but I just ordered a predatorhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif-not much on the hypertech. Don't have any info on the predator. My advice is Not to take a salesmans http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gifword on ANY PRODUCT! Also, what I have found is that usually when someone has something it is better than anyone elses.

Read alot of Magazines and keep reading posts on the forum. and that should help you out.

Sit back and add nothing. Read alot and figure out what your going to use it for then ask lots of questions. Once you have a good idea of how you are going to use it and have asked alot of questions you will be well informed and can make the proper decision for you and your truck. During the learning time start save money as once you start down the power road it gets emptied quickly!

Ditto on what Diesel Tech said. Do no rush out to install tons of power and not have an idea of how you will use your truck.. Power is addictive and once you add some, you will want tons more. Be ready to break out the wallet and start saving for a trans and tons of mods.... Day be day, small steps.....Welcome to the forum...

welcome aboard. the search function is your best friend. in only 11 months we have compiled info on everything you never knew you have to have. Start with juice w/attitude and exhaust. almost everyone has tried the juice, and those who havent will be hooked once they do. Been proudly juiced 11 months and will never turn back. Dont be afraid to ask anything on here, if you cant find it theres a good chance someone knows and all of the 6600+ members would be glad to try and help.

I agree. I was new to all this and now I actually understand the majority of things going on. I was talking to a tech at the stealer the other day and he was shocked because I knew quite a bit about my truck. I owe my knowledge base to this forum http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif I now know that I can take care of my truck. Thanks to this GREAT forum!!!! Thanks guys!

Be aware that add on performance stuff can void your warranty, if the dealer catches you with it on. So remove before any kind of dealer service.
I hope to do an Edge Juice with Attitude monitor.

Read as much as you can before modding. ANY power enhancements should be in this order IMHO even if the truck is stock as follows

1.Gauges :Pyro and boost Know what temperatures are in your DMX and what your turbo does in relation to the pyrometer in regards to load.... over 1250F on the pyrometer=Bad cumulative damage start point

2. 4" exhaust and Good Reputable Airfilter (Delco's own works quite well) a diesel is like any other air pump...LET IT BREATHE! the bonus is lower EGT's and some added bark to the factory pedestrian exhaust tone and the airfilter adds... turbo sounds (which are cool BTW)

3. Bilstien Shocks... members are swearing by them and swearing off the stock pogo sticks...if you to .. they're the way to go (I guess)

4. By now you have been reading all the stories on the forum and a month has gone by...you have a good idea how your engine reacts to load .... pyrometer temps, boost levels etc... now you can really start planning for a power enhancing device if you are so inclined. Some include gauges (like the juice) and others do not. Some adjust for speed limit delete (power pup /Xcelerator/QZilla Stealth) while the juice does not. Some are custom programmed to YOUR needs (Steve cole TTS powersystems) BOTTOM LINE...buy one when YOU are ready to ,and know WHAT YOU EXPECT out of your truck (TOW RIG/DYNO/DRAG/SLEDPULL/Only a little more oomph etc)

Bottom line... everyone seems to enjoy their purchased goodies more when they buy the one that suits them best. Feel free to ask opinions. There are no stupid questions , we all started out stupid at one point on these rigs.

5. ENJOY your truck! You have purchased one of the most versatile engine/ tranny combinations out there bar none!

Thank you

J

Welcome to the Forum...........

As a fellow CT resident I am sure Mackin and I can help you spend your life savings and max at least one of you credit cards out http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

End of September is the CT/Northeast Get-Together in Cornwall, CT.....

Look for a possible fall dyno day as one usually happens in October......

Last but not least...........you only have 10 1/2 months of reading to do to get up to speed.............

Mr. Duradiesel and company,

A part that many people over look is what we at DEI like to call "Thermal Tuning". Thermal Tuning is controlling that unwanted power robbing heat by the use of our heat control products. We as a company offer Turbo Insulation Kits, Exhaust Wraps, and many other products that will help in lowering underhood temperature and protecting your valuable components. Please be sure to stop by our website (www.designengineering.com (http://www.designengineering.com)) to see our full line along with our award winning CryO2 system.

I also need for some of you truck owners to upload some pictures to our photo gallery, I want to see some diesels.Edited by: Jon@DEI
