Hi there. I have a 2004 Duramax Turbo 6.6 and am trying to remove the silencer to make it whistle. I searched for it and was unsucessful. Does anyone know where it is located and able to help me. I would also like to put an exhaust system on it as soon as money allows :) thanks in advance for your assistance.

I don't think there is a silencer per se, on my 03 LB7 it has the plastic cover that has the "6.6" on it, which has a resonator chamber off the intake. My understanding is this is the silencer they use. There has been talk of plugging the intake where it branches off to the resonator, but I don't know of anyone who has tried it. If you were to rig something and it failed, whatever could be sucked into the turbo and that would definately fall into the bad category. I've never been able to justify the expense of adding a stage 2 intake for several hundred dollars just to hear the turbo whine, since it seems none of these intakes gain us anything performance wise (but they do look cool tho http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif). If you do to the guinea pig route and work something up, be sure to post it and let us know if it makes any difference in sound.

I plugged the resonator hole but there is hardly any noticable increase in turbo whistle.

Well I was debating a stage two Afe. So I did it, and saw an incrediable decrease in EGT's and a nice gain in fuel mileage. A little more whistle, but the egt thing was what I needed. It works.
