Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if you are looking for the baddest fattest looking tire and wheel for your non-lifted HD, look no further. I saw this post -

http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116336&highlight=305%2F65%2F17

and decided to try it, I just put them on in my garage. the pics in that post are great but dont even do this cobo justice. 7 turns on bars and trimmed valance is all it needed. I'm doing escalade handles tomorrow then I'll post pics. Just had to say something. Cant get over how good it looks. OK I'll stop now...

Awesome...

Ok now I'll stop.

Its still in the garage for the handle job tomorrow, but Ill be sure to comment- By the way, got my chrome H2s off ebay for $330, seems to be the going rate, but there were like 5 sets for sale at the same time when I bought, probly helped me with the price some.

I got 5 of my BFG 315/70/17s with H2 takeoffs for $500, and just did the same thing without a lift

http://s89192847.onlinehome.us/uploader/uploads/DSC02556%20(Large).JPG

since getting it re-aligned again it still rubs when backing up and turning so I have more tucking of the wells to do

Are there 18" and 20" H2's?
If so which is the way to go?
Do they both have the same offset?

The only one's I think will work on our trucks is the H2's like pictured above !!!

they will all work on our trucks, they have the same bolt pattern, just depends on what you want to spend on tires

You know, I find it irritating when people post info about a new set up and then SAY they are going to post pics, and then dont. Well, let me tell ya, its funny how life finds a way to get in the way of the simplest plans. To put it short we have had to make six 4-hour drives out of town with a 6 week infant in tow in the last 5 weeks, 4 due to fam emergencies and 2 for christmas. Those used up all of my days off, and the days I work its dark when I get home. We just got back from christmas and now I work for the next 7 days straight and wont be able to get pics then either. SO now maybe another week from now. If anyone remembers what the thread was about by then- By the way, the 315's look good too, but many people have had sig fitment issues with them - $.02.
Sorry-

Sstat,
Truck looks great. Unfortunately, I can't help you with posting advice, but I can say the set up looks great. I just purchased some 06' chome take-offs and am just saving up another month for leveling kit/pitman idler, etc. and tires and will be looking quite similar.
How are those 305's with rubbing? Did you cut? I must get E rated tires and I am leaning towards the 285 Toyo A/T's in the E because they are a little narrower and I don't want to worry about rubbing as I tow a 31 foot 5th a lot. Let us know your mods. Nice setup though!

Oh yea, truck hasnt been washed in 3 months, we have a 8 wk old baby in the house. I only had to trim the front at first, then I noticed when backing uphill in reverse with wheels at full lock I rub the inner fender, so Im gonna have to do that inner fender mod where you tie back the brake line... someday. I only turned up the t-bars 7 turns so it shouldnt take much. I didnt even change shocks although I plan to soon. Other changes in the pics are the escalade handles (easy) and boss bars (love'em). Heres a link where its easier to see them all together-

Thanks for the info. Very helpful my friend.
Your truck looks perfect. Like a real truck. I love that fact that we can get those H2 takeoffs for real cheap, have a custom CHROME! look but not have to worry about screwing up a brand new set of $1,000+ aftermarket wheels. The best way to go for a working truck in my mind.

Heres an update on the necessary trimming. I raised the front of the truck so the front was 1" lower than the back which took 7 turns on the torsion bars. with this the front tires rubbed the front valance which I trimmed as most everyone has to do (pic 1). But then with the front tires turned all the way to the right (and backing uphill) the left front tire grabbed a full inch of the inner platic in the front of the wheel well, the right tire rubbed nowhere which I dont understand since the ride height is equal side to side. Anyway, so I trimmed the inner fender platic as shown in pic 2. I cut it at 45 deg angles to match the other angles already in the platic and sanded it down, no one could possible tell it was ever cut, even though I took a full inch out. Overall, a piece of cake for making this truck look like it should. Still needs a bath.

Glad to help, you know its interesting, once I put these on the truck I couldnt get over how the pics from the thread I listed in the 1st post didnt seem to do these tires justice. Now I posted my own pics and even my pics dont seem to show how fat these tires look. But then Ive seen some local trucks with 285s on and was surprised how fat they looked compared to pics of them on the net. Anyway, they're even fatter than they look, and thanks to the huge backspace of the H2s they barely rub. Let me know if you have questions -

moss022
01-15-2007, 06:11 PM
can you measure the tread across the tire, as in, what actually is hitting the pavement

CrazyMan
01-15-2007, 06:55 PM
What do they measure out to??

SSTAT
01-15-2007, 10:39 PM
Tread width measures out to 10" even. The section width is where you get a lot of the 'fatness' though, tirerack measures section width to be 12.2" on a 9" wide rim (H2s are 8.5").

Craigslist. Be patient. I found 5 chrome H2's off an 06 Hummer for $200, barely used.
On ebay it seems like $350-400 is the going rate. Also try local dealers, call them up and try and bargain.

I prefer the look of the stock center caps rather than the h2 ones. Also, to run the h2 center caps you have to run spacers on the rear rims to get them to fit.

The H2 center caps are ugly IMO. Won't fit on the back wheels. Did I mention how funny looking they are?

The H2 wheel on all of your trucks looks great. I have purchased some H2 wheels from Woody. They should be here before long. I have a question on the tortion bars. I see the adjustment in the crossmember under the transfercase. Is this where you adjust them? If so, do you screw the bolt in some or back the bolt out some? I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Right tighty, lefty loosey. Right to go up, left to lower. And yes it's in the crossmember in the area of the tcase, basically under the front doors. Chris

you also should get the truck re-aligned after adjusting the torsion bars

I'm with BigShrimpah and Dustin and the crew. The stock centercaps look much more rugged IMO. We aren't copying each other, it just looks better that way :)
Plus the average Joe see's this wheel setup with the Chevy centercap and can't tell they're H2 takeoffs. I don't want to look like a Hummer, I want custom!!!

I really like the H2 caps......normally I like using the stock Chevrolet/GMC caps whenever possible.....but the H2 is a lot cleaner on my computer screen. The Chevrolet/GMC looks so odd on a H2 wheel....screw custom, I want factory appearing!
