Gentlemen,
What are the biggest differences between the two? As far as all around uses, mpg, costs, opinions are welcomed. I'm talking crew cab 4wd single wheel configurations. Maybe it's newbe think, but why not go bigger? Luke

The only difference I've seen / read about between the 2500HD and the 3500 SRW is

265/75 - 16 tires instead of 245/75 - 16 tires

Slightly different rear spring pack.

That's it.....of course the only one I've seen and had a chance to look at was at the fair last October.

Also, they only come with the long bed as of right now no matter what configuration you choose. The payload is greater since it is a 1 ton truck and that is about it...

Actually the payload difference may be nominal anymore the way they rate these things. One major difference I found between a 2500 and a 3500SRW when I bought my 2000 K3500 OBS was that the 3500 came with a heavier duty Borg Warner 4401 tranfesr case while the 2500 came with a lighter New Process case. I am not sure is this applies to NBS trucks though.

The 2500 HD has different sticker, a different selection of wheels, a different spring pack and a selection of configurations.

In the case of D/A 2wd drivetrain, the rear ends are the same. I cannot
say what happens for 4wd.

Also the 3500 does not come with all of the side molding, which I personally like the looks of better. There was very little or no difference in cost when I ordered and got mine, so I figured since we are getting a trailer, might as well go for the larger gvw (9900 vs 9200) to give me a little better "safety" margin.

I also believe that the SRW 3500 is only available with steel wheels.

I like steel wheel myself, they are a lot more forgiving.

3500 = looks are plainer due to no mouldings.. Steel wheels only. bigger tires. Long bed only. one extra spring "overload". only ~300lbs payload increase over 2500HD. Same frame.

My dad was wanting a truck (K35943) so I did the searching and had choice between the 3500 and 2500HD. In the end the 2500HD is what we drove home. Prettier looking truck in my opinion.
