Alright my black outs have put quite a few small surface scratches on my headlight lenses and I would like to remove them some how. Is there any way to polish these scratches out of the lens?

Novus makes a plastic polish in 3 grades - 3 being the most agressive. 3M also makes polishes that might work.

Permatex make a plastic lens restoration kit available at most auto parts suppliers for @ $10

I do my 9 year old chevy van yearly with this stuff, great for scratches and yellowing of clear lens.

The cheap way = toothpaste.. try it first - it might be enough.

"Flitz" is also good.

Alright I will see about the lens restoration kits. As for the tooth paste do you just use it like you would aluminum polish on wheels?

I work in a shop that does body work. I left my covers on the floor one time and someone kicked them leaving deep scratches. I had our body guy scuff and clear coat them. They still look brand new and havent scratched since. ;)

If you can stop a local bodyshop. They may do them for free when they clear a car.

Tow master, I would but I cant go with out my head light housings and I would be afraid of the clear chipping off of them. Also what brand black outs do you have?

Depending on how deep the scratches are you might try cleaner wax, worked on my wifes car (weren't really bad and it also took the some of the yellowing out).

Toothpaste - yup, just use it like you would any old wax or compound. A small, hand-held orbital or a dremel (with polishing bit) will make it alot easier than by hand. Depending on the scratches, it may not be enough - but it's worth a shot.

I just recently did the lenses on my wifes 01' Acura CLS that were pitted pretty bad and they look new now. Wet sanded with 600/800/1000/1500/2000grit wet sandpaper then finished with Meguiar's PlastX. Using my orbital 1,800rpm buffer it took about 1.5hrs per lens. Kinda scary when starting cause the 600 grit really scratches the heck out of'em, but like I said they look brand new now. good luck

Exactly, you have to get the scratches out to begin with, then progressively work higher in grit .. Toothpaste may work but only if its really really shallow scratches. Any kind of rubbing compound works as well, the stuff they use to buff cars with, different grits as with any polish.. Just have to guess at where to start.
