: Pyrometer, Boost Gauge......
Grizzly127 12-14-2006, 11:04 AM Hey,
So I'm on Banks Power website, looking at their gauges, and when all is said and done....oil temp, tranny temp, boost, and pyrometer, the bill is $393.
I know Banks makes a great set of gauges but does anyone have any other recommendations of good gauges without the cost of 1/4 year of fuel?
I just put a great turbo charged rebuilt 6.2 in and I want good stuff reading my numbers.

Turbine Doc 12-14-2006, 11:18 AM Visit vendors that support this site, google or yahoo serch for gauges, Westech will custom build to your specifications, nothing special about gauges for Diesel, temp is temp, pressure is pressure, EGT is sort of a Diesel Thing, but some gassers run em on their turbo set ups, also marine-industrial or aviation monitor EGT as well.
Price varies with the name on them, and vendor that sells them, Summit, Jegs, JC Whitney most local shops sell or can get them Autometer is a common brand many go with
irelandd 12-14-2006, 01:13 PM egauges.com have good prices as well.
samfraser 12-14-2006, 01:22 PM autometer ultra lite, love em, with pod, pyro, and boost you should be round 225-300 depending on who you get them from, lots of vendors on this site, check em out!:D
DavidPhillips 12-14-2006, 01:50 PM I have a bully-dog set of egt, tranny, and boost.
I went with the Autometer z series for other gauges. They are good.
Shop around for best price.
cardomain has them.
DieselDufus 12-14-2006, 04:25 PM Search for "light thru the dial" guages. You'll get hits for VDO and AutoMeter to name a few. Summit Racing has some dandy deals.
Watch out for sending units and tubing. They can nail you for those if you aren't careful.
strictlydiesel86 12-14-2006, 04:42 PM egauges.com have good prices as well.
got my set there. vdo w/ 15psi boost. great company. like 250 i believe w/ free shipping.
packratt 12-14-2006, 07:18 PM What specs should you look for for EGT, Boost, Fuel Pressure?
Kilborg 12-14-2006, 07:23 PM Egt, boost, and tranny temp are probably the 3 more important ones. A bombed diesel can overheat and munch a tranny quick, or it can nuke itself with excessive EGT. Boost is useful and cool.
DavidPhillips 12-14-2006, 07:36 PM You don't need vacuum on the boost gauge. Although it might indicate a clogged air filter.
Diesel should not have vacuum on intake.
Fuel pressure should go to about 15 psi for mid range operation. You will get from 3 to 7 ish.
Tranny temps should all be the same.
packratt 12-14-2006, 08:01 PM Maybe I should have said what range on the gauges instead of specs. From looking at the catalogs each of the gauges come in about 4 different ranges.
Tranny temp isn't too useful with a NV4500.
Goldsburg 12-14-2006, 08:04 PM I will plug for www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com), where I bought the gauges for my previous 6.5. The trick is finding a 15PSI boost gauge, which Kennedy has. And yes, skip the trans temp gauge on the handshaker...
There are others as well:

Regards,
DavidPhillips 12-14-2006, 08:30 PM my boost goes 0 to 50. Up to 15psi should be ok, you will run about 11 max stock, but some guys are running high enough to peg the 15. 35 psi is common.
Fuel once again should be up to about 15psi. It will run around 3 to 8psi.
EGT should not go over 1100 so 1500 is good for top of scale.
Goldsburg 12-15-2006, 01:21 PM ...35 psi is common...
I really don't believe that 35PSI is common on a 6.5...!
GmTrucks4Life 12-15-2006, 02:46 PM I got mine from egauges.com i got ultra lites and they were at my door in four days and the price was reasonable...
Grizzly127 12-15-2006, 02:50 PM Hello again....
I went to all the places mentioned in this thread and found tons of cool stuff. I finally settled with Kennedy Diesel because they sell the reasopnable packages for Pyro and boost for around $230. This includes the pillar mount and all the hardware necessary to make it work.
That is nice to have someone who has sold tons of stuff for the 6.2 and 6.5, it means that when ordering online, you get it right the first time!
Thanks for all the input.

DavidPhillips 12-15-2006, 03:03 PM 35 psi is common on a gauge, not a 6.5.
So to get matching gauges.....
That was my point.
1994SPLODER 12-15-2006, 07:51 PM For my 2 cents i had VDO boost pyro and trans temp the boost still works fine but the other two started giving me problems so i changed them out for the autometer gauges the cost for the two was 190$ from NAPA
Got Juice? 12-15-2006, 07:55 PM Give John at DPS a call or Kennedy Diesel.
Great service, good solid products, at a fair price.
