I'm wanting to put a switch in to cut the power to my electric windows. Has anyone done this? When my dog rides with me in the summer I leave the truck running and he rolls down the window.

I'm not an elctrical guru, or anything, so maybe wait till someone else chimes in. But, if it was me, and since some cars have a "lockout" switch, try disconnecting the power at the driver's side switches (just pull off all of the connections). I THINK that all of the power goes through the driver's side first. Now try the other windows - if they don't work, all you have to do is splice in an extra switch and mount it there on the door (in a good place where the pup isn't going to turn it back on!). If the other windows still work, well, then I'm out of suggestions. Good luck! :)

I will try it and see what happens. Thanks for the input.

I was thinking that too, but maybe that's the problem....the dog is hitting those switches.....how about just making a cover to go over the driver's side switches to include the lockout? I think that would me easier and it wouldn't require you to cut any wires.

If you go the "splice a switch in" method, there's no reason the new "lockout" switch has to be on the door. It could be anywhere - it's easy enough to run wires to the dash or an overhead console or even the plastic A-Pillar trim piece.

Just thought of something else - if you have keyless entry, it may not work if you install the lockout switch - you'll have to use the key.

Another thought - you may be able to buy a new door lock/power windows switch pad that already has the lockout button in it. It's very easy to change those - they just pop out.

My reg cab has no lockout switch. Do the new lockout switches lock the drivers side as well. I know on my '04 Suburban it locks all windows except drivers side.

my crewcab has a lockout switch for doors and windows but it does NOT lock out the drivers side controls. Just don't let the dog get in the Drivers seat!!!
