Anyone have there exhaust tubing and tip coated with some sort of black coating that will hold up to the heat and the elements? I saw a few trucks at SEMA but I assume that they are just a cosmetic coating like rattle can black. I want it black but I don't want it to come off or discolor. Any Ideas?

two of my buddies have stacks coated with the same stuff they use on bbqs. it flakes off kinda easy because the tips used to be chrome. i think itd be stronger on something that is raw metal.

The black exhaust systems you saw at SEMA were probably RBP. I've installed quite a few of the black tips with no problems with flaking, chipping, cracking, etc. Its not rattle can, its a high temp coating that is baked on or something like that.

Cheap way:VHT header paint. It pretty much bakes itself on.!They also make wrinkle finish that the harley guys use on the jugs.

We have done a few stack systems with black power coating and one 5 inch system on a Chevy Duramax.

You can get Jet-Hot coatings in black. I've used them before -- excellent.

I've used HOT paint on headers before and it worked great. It was supposed to be curred in an oven but the headers cure themselves :)

I used flat black BBQ paint on my exhaust(were I made my welds) and it seems to have held up well. Plus its cheap and easy to touch up if I ever find the need. The area was wire brushed and down to the bare metal to it probably helped it stick.

The black at SEMA was Ceramic coating, like JBA uses on headers. Doesn't come off.
