What would the compression ratio be if a guy had the thick gasket on a LB7 and the rods where bent .050? Just wondering how low we can take the compression and still start them in the cold. This truck started ok. Thanks Roger

I think Clint at ATS runs 15:1 pistons in his truck and theyre in colorado...

You can always add an ether start aid :D

Ether and glow plugs don't go hand and hand.

Using the compression formula I posted in the piston thread and assuming the piston was in the hole by .050 my guess would be a little over 14:1.

Unhook the glow plugs. Will start quicker on ether than glow plugs with low compression.

my original 02 engine had thick gaskets and all rods were self-shortened, the worst being .048 under the deck. truck had no intake air heater and always started perfectly
12:1 with glow plug, 13.5 without glow plug by 32 degrees F

Thanks guys:) Just trying to decide how low I should take my compression. Roger
