Check with your dealer and make sure dual alts does not hold up your order on your 05. I ordered mine in June and Dual Alts would put a hold on the vehicle until Dec. I cancelled the dual alts and truck is being built week of Aug 1 and delivered week of Sept 1. Dealer agreed to sell me the parts at cost and install free.

Word is that the sunroof and dual alts options will not be available until late December or early January. They dropped the option in late '04 for some unknown reason, possibly unable to meet demand. This could be due to the fact that the H1's will be getting Dmax engines next year and maybe the Military is getting all the dual alts?

I ordered my 04.5 LLY back in early March with dual alts and had serious delays in getting it. I don't know if that was the holdup or not but it took along time to receive our truck. I now have the truck and all is well. I am sure you were referring to 05 but figured I would answer as we did get an LLY with dual alts.

I ordered mine before it was such a widely known option. I'm thankful it didn't hold up the build date. I really like the dual Alts.. I've never needed them, but the cool-o-meter rating is high!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Maybe they help recharge the batteries faster if they run low, But that is probably me just grasping for reasons to justify them.

I haven't had any problems with them. I suppose if one went down the other would get you by.

If someone was going to have a big stereo system, or allot of electronics the option would be a must.Edited by: LLY DMAX

Talked to my dealer this morning. My truck is scheduled to be built August 20 with dual alts. They checked on it yesterday and there was no indication of a hold as a result of that option. It definitely got put on hold when I was trying to get a sunroof.

Hopefully GMC won't throw a last minute change into the mix.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I had factory dual alts and replaced one with a 190 Amp. I did extensive testing of charging rates from each and the results of disabling one (disc brown wire). They work well together or alone. Now I have a 105A back-up in my on-board spares box.

While on the subject, I have had more alternators go bad because of bearing freeze than diodes giving out. When that happens your belt gets shredded. The moral to the story is that you should carry two spare belts, one specific for a single alternator setup and another specific for a dual alternator setup.
