So, do you really need to install larger exhaust w/ the edge. I understand that the harder you work it, the higher the EGTs. Obviously the 4" would decrease it. However, I have been told that you dont necesarilly need to upgrade.

What does everyone think??

Honestly it is best to install a larger exhaust system to decrease EGT's however if you choose not to then you will need to be very aware of those temps in order to stop any damage from occuring. If it were me I would install some aftermarket system just to be on the safe side. Or you can cut out the muffler and run straight piped. This will also cut down on EGT's some... Good luck...

You'll need to at least get rid of the stock muffler, replace it with something that's low restriction. Some members here are getting pretty good temp drops with just a muffler change or a straight pipe, but a straight pipe is going to be loud.

You could start with just a flange back system that replaces your stock muffler and gives you 4" from the flange on back and do the downpipe later...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I agree with you, the flange back system on my truck seems to allow for lower EGT's. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

I have the edge with the attitude monitor and the AFE II. I've been debating what exhaust to get but can't decide. has anyone ran the Jegs exhaust system? I'm very curious to how good it is for such a low price. Anyone?

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifI am thinking of buying the duramax stores performance 5" exhaust. At under $500, I really dont see where I could go wrong. Click on the link below and see.

I have heard that 5" is overkill and sometimes even can loose some power unless running BIG boxes , propane , nos , etc.. Is that just a myth or is it true?

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif I dunno, I am a newbie to this stuff. I was hoping someone would comment or clarify. I want to order it and it is all I can do not to order it untill someone answered. I have always been told that a gasser needs back pressure-the exhaust doesn't just blow, it sucks air. If you cut-off a pipe and ran just headers, it would burn up your valves quick.

On a diesel, it doesn't need back pressure-or so i've been told.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I hope someone could answer this.

IMO, Your exaust question with the Edge depends on your Truck use.

If you want to use the Edge higher end settings and pull a lot, especially in hilly territory you may consider a larger exaust. Depends on how you drive when you pull also. Petal to the floor on a steep hill with Attitude on 5 could use the exaust options.

However , I have used Edge higer settings for over a year with a Flowmaster muffler only and have had no problems. I'm stacking now.

Bottom line is when I pull (loads under 10,000lbs) I take it easy on the petal, and will have short time passing bursts at the most.

Don't ask me about the races with my race car and trailer behind me. Them "Ferds" ain't passing me on the way to the track or at the track if I can help it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
