just bought an 02 silveraldo crew cab 4X4 LT. I have now rolled over the 200,000 km mark. Love the truck. Injectors were replaced at 130,000. I am averaging 16 mpg . A lot of stop and go driving and it is around 0 degrees celcius now. Little cool. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to get it over 20 mpg? My first diesel and lovin it! What is everybody else getting for mpg?

Around town in stop & go 8 miles to and from work - 14.8 to 16.2 (depending on the foot versus rice burners!)
Open road, 1500 mile round trip, first 750 average speed 68mph (by GPS) 19.8mpg --- second 750 average speed 61mph 19.8mpg --- lots of stopping and gawking on second half. Best I ever got was a 250 trip at 55mph in TX -- got 22.4mpg (I CAN'T DRIVE 55!!)

exhaust, intake, and programmer. I think people are getting the best with predator programmers

Stop and go kills your mileage. Try a highway tank with the cruise set at 65.

jc racing - What part of Canada are you from ??
16mpg this time of year with stop and go is as good as it's going to get, the programmers, exhaust, cold air upgrades really work at getting a little better mpg when towing or steady hwy cruising. You'll see 20 - 25 hwy cruising without loads.

from Ingleside Ontario. South of Ottawa on the St. Lawrence river. Acually pretty warm these days 5, 6 C and no snow. Thanks for the help. New to diesel P/U's but drive transport for living. Any info to make my ride better is greatly appreciated.

I average 16-18 in town and 20-22 on the highway. I run GM Diesel Fuel Conditioner in every tank and the truck is 100% stock. The colder temps and extended idle usually drops my economy down towards 16 while in town. As the temps go up so does my fuel economy. If you are doing a lot of stop and go, 16 mpg is pretty good for a diesel.

Winter fuel will also lower your mileage. Wait and see how it is once the winter blend is gone.

mitchagain, with that post OEM CAT fuel filter, have you ever checked the temp of it(filter housing) while on road. reason i ask is the discussion about larger cooler/fan on fuel cooler is supposed to help MPG, and i wonder if you maybe heating fuel and it might be reducinf your MPG. last year this time did 250 mile trip to Wisconsin and got 22mpg at 70mph. maybe check it out next trip.
