: Bully Dog versus Trans-Go

I Have just purchased a Bully dog shift kit for my lly D-max and I am hesitant about installing it after talking to some people. They seem to favor the trans-go. Was wondering if any one could give me some insight on this matter. Along with my bully dog I purchased a juice with attitude and was told that this would be sufficient to handle the power. I tried to do some reseach on trans-go but came up short. Seems like everyone is installing the suncoast. I was ecstatic about getting my chip and now I'm in the dumps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A Suncoast kit comes with a Transgo shift kit and also included with it are upgraded Clutches should you choose that as well as either a single disk or triple disk torque converter.

I would install a Suncoast 3 full kit... You will be better off in the long run. Besides power is very addictive and you will want more in a very short time.. If you choose to just do the shift kit, then do the Transgo. You will be more satisfied with it...

rejet,

The purpose of the Trans-Go kit is to address the C2 clutch pack not holding under higher HP/TQ, some trucks also have experienced torque converter drain back issues when left sitting for a few days or weeks which is addressed, and it also has a 2 different springs if you choose that are available for the TC booster valve with either a 170psi or 190 psi pressure.

As dmaxallitech has stated once you get the clutches in the transmission to hold the power the next week link is the Torque converter.

So the question is do you want to pull the tranny to install the transgo kit and not get a new converter ??

Then if you do pull it and replace the converter with the Trans-Go kit and TC booster valve, do you want to stay with stock clutches ????

If you look in the Allison forum there are several threads with Upgrades discussed.

I personally went with a SUNCOAST L-3 kit for the above mentioned reasons.

These are burned C2 clutches and steels.

They are supposed to be a REDDISH color.........these sure are not http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

C2 clutches and steels with a nice C1 clutch ( smaller one ) as a reference for color comparison...............

The kits that consist of a converter and a transgo kit and use the stock clutches or OEM replacments should hold a deccent amount of HP, some have said into the 500rwhp. It has been shown on the dyno and I have also experience slipping the converter with a juice set to 125hp, I think most people agree that the stock converter is only good for about 370rwhp IIRC? So once you take care of the clutches(with a kit or even put a high zoot shift kit with new clutches) the next weak link so to speak and the most costly part of the upgrade is the converter.

I dont believe the bully dog will do crap for ya, if you havent been hard on your truck with power then I would say a transgo kit and another converter would hold the juice fine, if you are thinking someday you may want to get crazy then a SC level 3 may be a good idea or one of the other higher holding kits. If you know the juice is as far as you will go a transgo kit and using your clutches and doing the upgrade NOW would be wise IMO, if you wait till you hurt the trans(with the juice it will probably be awhile) when you do the upgrade you will be stuck buying new clutches so doing it now will be a little cheaper in the long run if its going to get done regardless. TRhere is also a performance difference, the juice WILL back down especially in 5th so you arnt getting full power with a stock trans, a modded trans will put more power to the ground. This has been proven by my sophisticated SOP meter and I have also seen a back to back dyno on the same day/same truck/same program. Also got the oportunity to try to follow a guy with a lly and a juice and I could hang with my unmodded trany till we hit 5th and he just flat out left me.

JMO and experiences......

actually the complete trans go kit can be had for around 275.00. Its not that expensive, the cost goes up in a hurry when you add in clutches, converter, boost valve, etc.
