: Making A Duramax Louder?

I already have a staright pipe where the muffler once was but it's just not loud enough. It is the new LLY so it has the cat. My 2002 was straight piped with no cat and it sounded like a semi. I loved it. By taking the cat off of my LLY will it make it any louder? Also are there any other suggestions to make it as loud as possible? Any help would be appreciated! Edited by: codythom

It will make it louder, but it really sounds nothing like an LB7. The VVT make some really unique sounds.

MY REG CAB HAD A 5 INCH ON IT AND IT WAS QUITE A BIT LOUDER THAN JUST A STOCK SYSTEM WITH THE MUFFLER REMOVED. LOOK AROUND LUBBOCK ITS TERRORIZING THE STREETS SOMEWHERE I SAW IT THE OTHER DAYhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Bend a 4" piece that comes off the turbo and comes up through the hood. You should get some sound out of that.

One of the supporting vendors here has a open Y-Pipe dump .

Check it out.

Do you know anyone that has the dump installed? I wonder if soot would build up internally, and if so how long it would take to adversely affect the performance of the dump itself.

Thanks,
Dennis

Will this work since I took the muffler off? The one installed still has the muffler on it. Will the downpipe from summit racing work well, or should I try and pull one off of an LB7? You said it would make it louder without the cat, but would it be worth paying $130 for the downpipe. If it is not that much louder, I probably won't do it.Edited by: codythom

That would really keep them guessing with 2 exits.

Looks like part Dmax and part early release round body F150...
