I always do my own oil and greasing (the first time the stealer did it they blew 3 of the rubber boots).

I put grease in the pittman arm I believe (the farthest one forward and one of the hardest ones to get to), when I pulled the grease gun nozzel off of the zerk the zerk came with it. It gets greased every 5k miles and the truck has 60k on it, so this is the 12th time grease has been put in this zerk.

I went an got a new 6mm zerk and it would not tighten, got 2 more, same result.

The original will tighten just enough to keep dirt from getting in. It seems that the factory original is slightly larger than a standard 6mm zerk. Is there a simple way to correct this problem?

Many have mentioned that they have a sort of shudder or bump when taking off from a stand still. The recommended fix seems to be greasing the splines where the drive shaft attaches to the tranny. I have a CC Long Box with the 2 piece driveshaft. I've been told that the 2 piece does not need to be greased because the splines in the center are sealed in a rubber boot.

I have a shudder or bump when I take off from a standstill. I already have the rubber donuts from dmaxallitech.

Are they wrong and the splines do need to be greased, or do you think it is something else?

We're having the same shudder or bump problem with our 2500 CC Short Box. I have yet to hear anything besides spline greasing. I'll let you know if I find out anything else.

I have a 01 extended long bed had the same shudder or thud I greased the transmissin spline a couple of weeks ago -no effect at all today I pulled the drive shaft and cut the metal band clampsthat hold the rubber boot for the center slip joint spline and marked the spines so I did not effect the balance and greased the spline with some wheel bearing grease put it back together and used zip ties for the boot. Results it is like a totally different truck now.Sad thing is I had three dealer service departments drive it and they all have a standard answer=Its a heavy transmission and it has big heavy gears.Yea right

Thanks, sorry it took so long to get back, I've been out of town.

Think I could get away with using hose clamps and not mess up the balance (where you used zip ties)?

Also, anyone had to replace the center driveshaft bearing? I've heard a few say that around 50K they had theirs go out. I'm at 60K and was wondering what parts might cost. If I take the drive shaft out to grease the splines there, I may as well change that bearing while it is apart.

Thanks,

Bert

I had to replace center bearing at aroung 55k. Mine was covered under extended warrenty. I also have the shudder that has been described. It is called launch shudder. It can be a problem with anything that has U-joints and shafts. It happens under high torque and low rpm's.

ag4gt,

My extended warrantee requires that I pay the first $200. Thats why I was wondering if anyone knew what part numbers or what parts cost.

Thanks,

Bert

They can call it what they want but mine did the same thing very anonoying no matter how light you are with the throttle.Launch shudder my foot, I greased the slip joint at the center bearing and I don't have no launch shudder no more. Go figure.Like I stated before I had three dealers drive the truck and all said th same B.S. some of them just don't want to work.
