I have two question on the 6 speed. Is 5th & 6th over drive and will these transmissions fit the 6.5 engine in a 93 dually 2WD. I drove a friends 2003 dodge and the tranny was nice. a double OD would help drop my RPM at freeway speeds.
Thank you

IIRC 5th is 1:1 and 6th is overdrive

What trans is Dodge using now? I've been out of that loop... Last I knew, the NV5600 was no longer being produced.

Dodge is useing a M56 trans {Mercades} 05'+ . Doesn't shift near as nice as the NV5600 did IMO.

yeah, my buddy just got an 06 with a 6-speed and I told him it had a nv5600, but when I looked under the truck there was an aluminum trans? It must be the M56? Do you know how strong that trans is?

Now I'm remembering. Its a Getrag unit, isn't it? Supposed to be a pretty stout trans.
I like the NV5600, but the NV4500 wasn't bad either. A little too much gap in ratio for my liking with the Cummins though. My Dad is the Cummins man and sure loves his NV5600.

Will the NV5600 bolt up to the bellhousing on my '93 chevy dually? Would be nice to have. maybe with a gear change and a 6 speed I would keep the power up through the gearing.
thanks to all.

No, the NV5600 will not bolt up. If you want 6 gears, better look into a ZF-6 like they've got behind the Duramax. Some others on this board have researched the option a little, maybe they can chime in with what else would be needed here to make it happen.

Only complaint I've heard on the Dodge forums is that 6th gear is a little lower than the NV5600. Might turn a couple hundred more revs down the freeway. Otherwise, I haven't heard anything bad about the transmission. Have heard some grumbling about the DMF though.
