Can't believe it. I really hope that this is not the start of something bad. I changed the Nicktane filter before the drags on Sunday. I am not sure if the truck was hard starting at that point because of whatever little air may have been in the system. I did fill the new filter and it did not seem to take long to start.

At some point during Sunday, it was hard starting. After sitting for about 1/2 hour or longer, it would have to crank for 30 seconds or longer to start. After starting and running, it would start easier, but still crank for 20-30 seconds to start. I changed back to the original filter, somehow thinking that the new one was letting pressure off the line and losing prime. Old filter did not do anything to help. Fuel filter has about 3 k on it. The longer it sits, the harder it is to start. Predator does not show any codes, fuel injector trims seem reasonable, nothing greater than about 2.0-3.0 worst case. I have not changed the original fuel filter. I did pull the air filter and it did not help anything. I cracked the bleeder and pumped the system, but everytime, there was no air expelled from the system and pumping did not help the starting problem. All I can think now is that the high pressure pump may be going, or an injector. I have not checked the fuel lines to and from the Nicktane, but until I changed the filter and or went racing, only made two pretty easy runs, this was not a problem. I guess it would be good to change the stock filter and see if that will help anything, but I am not hopeful. The stock filter has about 5-7 k on it. Anything that I can do to test anything? Or is it time to have the truck sit at the dealer for weeks in the hopes that they can fix it, and it will be either injectors or a fuel pump. How long is it taking to get injectors now?

Any ideas anyone? Would bad fuel do this? I have been using FPPF since 6 K miles as well as the Nicktane.

make sure both of your fuel filters are tight.. make sure oring on OEM is seated properly and don't forget to grease them.

i would expect you to see some bubbles from the bleeder if that were the case though..

I did not disturb the OEM filter. I may just throw one on it to see if that will do any good. I have a bad feeling about this. This is the first time that I have changed the Nicktane filter.

Seems to still be running fine. Pulse widths are fine on the Predator. Just hard starting. I am sure hoping that it is a bad OEM filter or fuel. Still not sure why it just starting doing it in one day.

mine was one bad injector return ..........would not let the system build enough pressure to start... good clean 3 micron filtered fuel and 60k miles later no issues

So was it the injector itself or just the return? I am not sure I know what the difference it.

I think it's about time you started pulling your toys off and got it in to the steeler. Injectores took 1 week to get when my work truck went down.

Problem is most likly low fuel rail pressure in the return line caused by a bad injector. At least that was the problem with my work truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Changed the OEM filter, took of the Nicktane, checked the lines and swapped the Cat filter to the old one and back again. The last thing I did was install a new OEM filter. So far seems to be starting better. First thing in the morning will tell. Sequence of events was new Cat, then mid-day the same day, hard starting. Would have to crank for 30 sec-1 min before catch on cold start, then 20-45 sec on hot start. Also topped off a half full tank with fresh known good fuel. I thought that I saw a few drops of water when changing the OEM filter water sensor. We will see what the morning brings. It started fine after about 5-10 seconds tonight after getting the residual air out from the filter change and sitting for over 2 hours. I am hopeful. You can bet that I will be dissecting the other OEM filter that I just took off. It is a NAPA with about 3K on it.

Bosch is behind by about 290,000 units, so I was told, and to just enjoy my rental for a while. I know this doesn't help, but hey, if they keep it for 30 days, you might have a buyback situation.

Looks like I got lucky this time. I will cut the OEM filter apart and see what is up with it. Like I said, it only had about 5K miles on it. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif</TD></TR>
