: Anybody ever had seat popping ??
My driver's seat pops all the time !! I had it checked out at the dealer and they said all the bolts were tight and there was nothing else they could do . I like the guys and get along with them..........and they overlook some of my modifications .......so I don't want to be a pain to them !
But this freakin seat is about to drive me crazy. It pops when my weight shifts forward or backward !! Anybody ever had this problem ??
JPW77 12-08-2006, 08:39 AM Mine just started doing it around Thanksgiving and it's driving me nuts too. I haven't had time to try to check it out but I think its related to the electric adjustment if that makes any sense. Every now and then when I start my truck the seat will change position ever so slightly but I can feel it move and it's not just re-setting itself to my setting because I'm the only one that drives it and I never mess with the seat setting. I'm not sure if there are gears in the seat to make it move or what but I'm almost convinced that the popping noise is coming from whatever moves the seat.
could the frame be broken (underneath the leather/cloth)? I had an 93' Yukon that the fram broke on and it got progresively worse.
GMC2500HD 12-08-2006, 10:27 AM Mine does this from time to time. Not sure what the fix is if anything for this...
GM.Tech 12-08-2006, 10:45 AM We see the seat back recliner mechanism making this kind of noise (and other noises).
G-MAC 12-09-2006, 04:43 AM We see the seat back recliner mechanism making this kind of noise (and other noises).
I'm experiencing the same thing. I wanted to ask before but didn't know how to describe the problem. It feel's like it missing a tooth or a gear.
Doesn't bother me until I start noticing it, the it bothers the hell out of me.
tmg115 12-09-2006, 10:48 AM there is a TSB for this
sherr20 12-10-2006, 11:02 AM Mine does it on bumpy roads. Its a light pop. Just enough to be annoying.
TMG115 do you know the tsb number?
DarthDiesel 12-16-2006, 11:06 PM I have an 06 T wit 24 on it and I have noticed this noise. My noise seems to happen when my weight shifts and sounds like a cross between a pop and a creak. I was thinking it had something to do with the leather, uh vinyl against the cushion or plastic trim on the seat. My seat does not seem to move just makes noise.:(
Any help here would be good.
schulte 12-17-2006, 12:58 AM mine does this too. TSB anyone?
heaterswa 12-17-2006, 03:08 PM I noticed this quite often from the drivers seat, and just this weekend my wife complained that her seat was also making some popping noise. It definitely occurs as the weight of our body shifts during acc/ dec.

BudTX 12-17-2006, 06:43 PM I have noticed this occurring within a few hours of my ingesting Mexican food. I did not think to blame the seat itself. :o: :D
DarthDiesel 12-18-2006, 04:50 PM Funny, but I think it has to do with the pleather on the sides of the seat, my SLE with cloth did not have this issue. Does anybody have a cure here?
charliebean 12-19-2006, 04:48 PM Funny, but I think it has to do with the pleather on the sides of the seat, my SLE with cloth did not have this issue. Does anybody have a cure here?
The cloth seats in my truck do it also
DarthDiesel 12-19-2006, 10:21 PM Well that kills that, darn it. Does anybody got a fix?
My '05 was doing the same thing. Kept taking it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. Took it to a different dealer and they replaced the seat under warranty. Frame was cracked and adjustment pieces were failing
barronvon 12-20-2006, 02:54 AM It is the seat back recliner mechanism... We have had 3 silverados do this and it fixed every single on of them. They pop.. like when you first take off from a light or stop or adjust yourself in the seat.

Duramaxed06 12-20-2006, 01:42 PM Mine doesn't do it yet but I'd like to prevent it.
Kappa9012 12-20-2006, 02:02 PM my cloth seats do it also, time to take it in again...
DAN DIESELMM 12-20-2006, 04:14 PM My wifes 2006 DENALI passenger seat does it and it drives me crazy. She refuses to take it back to the dealer.
buddygunzz 12-20-2006, 09:26 PM i'm a gm tech and my driver seat did the same thing. replace the recliner assembly and was good for about two weeks and the noise came back. called gm and told me put agrease in the recliner( DON'T DO IT IF YOU WANT GREASE ON YOUR CLOTHS!!). i installed 2 plastic washers on the pivot bolt of the recliner assebly and the seat track on the left outer side(drivers seat). put washer between the reliner and seat track.the repair was done about 2 months and NO noise is present in the seat. Document ID# 659358 (remove outboard pivot bolt)..remove the 2- 13mm nuts holding the lower seat cushion to the seat track and the bolt is easy to get at...hope this helps
DarthDiesel 12-20-2006, 09:32 PM Thank you so much, what size washer? Did you get them at local hardware store?
buddygunzz 12-20-2006, 09:52 PM we had them in the shop nut/washer bin..don't know what size they are. you can take the bolt out and take it to the harware store. if the truck is still under warrenty the dealer can and should fix the problem.
tmg115 12-20-2006, 11:55 PM HAHA i forgot about this. i will look at work tomarow for the TSB. but im a little tipsy right now so someone might need to PM me tommarow to remind me to look for the number lol. oh well.
barronvon 12-21-2006, 01:01 AM Yeah the problem never came back except on one of the trucks... took it back and they said the recliner had to much play on both mechanisms.. they replaced it again... and it was solved. I have had it on the passenger seat as well and when no one is in it.. it rattles and flips around on bumpy roads. They changed the recliner on that side and that took care of that
tmg115 12-21-2006, 10:26 AM ok i remembered the TSB number
05-08-50-012A
buddygunzz 12-21-2006, 11:47 AM that tsb(05-08-50-012A) DOES not fix the seat noise coming from the recliner but does fix the rock on hard accel and braking
tmg115 12-21-2006, 12:42 PM that tsb(05-08-50-012A) DOES not fix the seat noise coming from the recliner but does fix the rock on hard accel and braking
Is that not what we are talking about?
schulte 12-21-2006, 01:09 PM Is that not what we are talking about?
:beerchug:
Not exactly. The original poster asked about the annoying popping noise.
tmg115 12-21-2006, 01:19 PM oh. i have that poping noise and it is my seat moving back and forth so i figuered thats what we were talking about.
My bad
Chvymtl3 12-21-2006, 01:52 PM I have cloth seats and the popping noise I am getting is in the backrest when I lean back against the seat to get my wallet out. Feels almost like the old camaro seats when the spring support in the back rest would bind and the pop when it released.
DarthDiesel 12-21-2006, 05:47 PM I have not had much luck "instructing" the dealer how to fix my truck...I am thinking this is a weekend warrior job. Unless that TSB is the fix. Anywhere I can get a copy of that thing? Thanks.
Smokin Hot Wife 12-24-2006, 12:27 PM I had a 93 3/4t Sub that did the same thing. We found that the nutplates in the floor were cracked and the popping was the plate moving around. I hope this isn't the case for you because I just bought my 06
Mine just seems to be getting worse.........I can lean forward and back and make it pop anytime the weight goes forward or comes backward !!
I will get them to check the TSB but may have to try the washers !!
laker 12-27-2006, 11:52 PM I had this problem on my 04. I eventualyy tracked it down to the wire backrest springs which is one piece and snaps over the top of the backrest steel tube frame . I removed the back rest cover by unsnapping the plastic snap at the bottom of the back rest upholstery cover and then peeling it up over the tube frame. The headrest can stay in place but you will need to pull the armrest. You will see how the wire frame snaps over the upper horizontal steel tube at the top of the seat back. I took mine off and the inserted a piece of thick felt under the wire and put it back on .At the same time I also added foam to the lumbar region to improve the support for the lower back. This fix has been on my truck for 18months with no re-occurence. Hope this helps.
2500hd05 12-28-2006, 12:40 AM mine too. the back area around my left kidney. feels like a spring catching on something then releasing. yes i can feel the pop.
DarthDiesel 12-28-2006, 08:41 AM I have both noises, the back and the base. I think it is a spring of some sort. as for the lumbar, i have the power lumbar it seems to be fine.
Jack Bauer 12-28-2006, 09:01 AM My passenger side seat makes all kinds of noise. Best description is it sounds like I left one of my car doors open and when I hit a bump it rattles. Whenever I hit a bump I bet the back part of the passenger side seat jumps forward and back prolly at least an inch. Its def one of the most annoying things. Haven't taken it to the stealer yet but somethings def very wrong with the seat.

this is is, I recall seeing a TSB on it somewhere. The wires for the frame roll a little bit as they stretch and makes the noises.
jevanb 12-28-2006, 11:33 AM my 94 suburban had the seat frame replace 2 years ago because it made the same noise, and guess what it is "BACK", but I do not care because my wife likes it and I get to drive my LBZ
nmckinn 01-14-2007, 05:32 AM I was rear ended and also having troubles gettin chevy to fix problems in leather seats. The back adjustment got movement in it with a noise after the wreck. Took bottom cushion off and the electronic motor that works the back has a 90 degree screw drive that the long althread goes into. Well that 90 degree screw drive has rivets that became loose and grabbing the seat back and moving it I could see there was the problem. So I read on the diesel place about getting the seats to recline more involved cutting one of the brass stops on the althread. Cut the stop and ran the electronic seat recline til the 90 degree screw drive came loose and drilled the rivets out and got some small bolts so I could tighten it up. Put it all back together problem solved. Sorry if this doesn't make sense I should have taken pictures. Also have the bad cushion on my truck when I took the cushion off the corner of the metal piece that the seat cushion sits on is cracked and this is not the first time. I will get a buddy to weld it back because the seat corner is sagging because of the crack. Hope this helps somebodies problems with the backrest being shaky.
KWnotPete 01-14-2007, 01:59 PM Heated seats ??Lost bag of popcorn??:D :D Haven't heard any better answer.

I posted on this problem a while back and the dealer fixed it just as you are explaining.

gregj 01-15-2007, 08:33 PM Mine too, could sit in it and push with my back and make it pop. The seat would pop every time I would accelerate or slowed down. Seems the frame on the left front side of the rail, where they bolt together, had just enough movement that the metal would move slightly causing the pop sound. I sprayed some silicone lubricant where the metal frames came together, and it fixed it. I'll post a pic tomorrow evening of the area I'm talking about.
IH PULR 01-15-2007, 08:39 PM We see the seat back recliner mechanism making this kind of noise (and other noises).
This happened to mine just pull leather or whatever of off seat back and weld broken seat back frame
Dirt Dog 01-15-2007, 08:54 PM The bulletin # is 05-08-50-012A
Here is some of the text and I'm not sure how effective it would be, but...
Condition
Some customers may comment on unwanted seat movement in the front power bucket seat (driver or passenger) during fast acceleration or hard braking. A metal to metal clicking noise is often heard at seat "stops."
Cause
The threads of the two zinc nut retainers (one on each side of the seat adjuster) may creep over time, causing a loss of self-rolling screw clamp load and ultimately causes relative rail and vehicle seat motion.
Correction
Apply adhesive and install new bolts in seat mounting rails using the following procedure.
