Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with a vibration that I need some suggestions on. The symptoms are:

Can only feel and hear on smooth pavement.
Almost always occurs between 61-63 and 68-69 MPH.
Have experienced it a couple times at slower speeds (30-35).
I can feel it in my feet but not in steering or seat.
Cannot feel it when braking.
When I veer sharply to the left (at freeway speed), it goes away.
When I veer right it doesn't go away.
It's a low sounding vibration and appears to change frequency with speed (at least when felt at 30 MPH).

Statistics:
Brand new tires (Wild Country AT's) seem to have reduced it slightly from my worn out Michelins.
73,000 miles.
50,000 miles on the Bilstein shocks.

Any assistance would be appreciated before I go spend a bunch of $$$ at the dealer.

Thanks,

Well, I had a pretty good vibration at around the 60-65 range. Turns out to have been one or both rear U-joints. l had my drive shaft checked for bends, dents and straightness. The shaft was fine, but the U-joints had dried up after 75K. They have a limited life and are sealed so no greasing them. The grease turns to a powder after a few years and some miles. It is a fairly cheap fix too! I'm not sure if your problem is the same as mine, but it's a good place to start! Only one bit of advice... Take it to a drive shaft place to have the joints replaced. I took mine to Meinike and they messed up the ends of the drive shaft and caused both U-joints to bind. Made the problem worse than it was when I brought it in!!! Got my money back and took it to a specialist. He told me that it is pretty easy to mess up the ends when changing U-joints on those aluminum drive shafts. Good luck!!

Thanks Tex,

I'm actually now feeling the vibration at most speeds. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow (I have a good dealer) to have them take a look at it. Inspected teh shocks tonight and they appear to be fine.

If that doesn't help then try looking at this post. It too may also help. It has similar symptoms/complaints.

Dealer just called. Both front bearings are shot. Right side had play and left side is clicking pretty bad. I'm having both replaced (not cheap either). At 73k miles, I'm a little disappointed. These are supposed to be heavy duty trucks.

That's very disappointing news to say the least. I've never even owned a car that needed wheel bearings in less than 100,000 miles.
