Does anyone currently have a laptop and /or printer in their truck?
I spoke with a structural engineer at work who said that you need a 750W converter(or was it inverter?)
Any advice or tips about what to do?? Anyone have advice on what type of mount to buy?

The guy that told me about it said he had a shop that wires police cars do his. He said something to the effect that his Laser printer made him need the larger inverter...
Thats the kind of desk i am looking for. Do you have one installed? If so, does it remove easily?

another good mount:
www.ram-mount.com (http://www.ram-mount.com)
They have you that you can bolt to your seat mounts/bolts so you don't have to drill into anything.

The jottodesk is a very good one. I had one in my '01. It mounts to the seat mount bolt, so no drilling. Easily removeable also. I ran a 350 watt inverter, but that was just a laptop, no printer.

I use a Ram Mount and a 400 watt inverter for a laptop that I use for navigation and for the kids watching movies.
The Ram Mount is very solid and not too bad to use. Interferes a little with passenger leg room. Easy to remove when not in use.
I could post pictures on the weekend if you like.

I use a laptop table from www.a2zsolutions.com (http://www.a2zsolutions.com). Have been using for six years, works very well. I also have a 400 watt inverter hard wired to the battery. If you use an inverter through the cig. lighter it is only good for 130 watts.

I can highly recommend the Ram system, particularly if you plan on off-roading. I have been using one for a number of years and am impressed with it's engineering. I use the swing mount combined with the large ball-joint arm and fabbed my own platform for a laptop (old and heavy) + phone + GPS. With this arrangement it can be moved so as to face the driver, the navigator, or just out of the way.
I have been airborne a number of times with this arrangement and when the dust settled everything was still right where it was supposed to be. Airborne laptops can be a distraction.
I suggest fabbing your own platform. I made mine out of 1/8" Al using low-temp rod so as to fit the laptop like a glove, requiring no springs, adjustment screws, etc. The ones sold off the shelf are "one size fits all" and are bulky and heavy.
You should be able to get a 12v converter for your laptop and a few printers. I hardwired mine and buried it deep within my console. With no load it only draws ma power so I just pull the fuse when my rig is destined for long-term non-use.
