I have been getting an intermittent DIC message saying there is water in the fuel. I read the directions in the Duramax Supplement Manual on draining water from the fuel filter, but it is not as simple as it reads.
It feels like there is a "wing nut" type valve on the bottom of the filter with a drain tube in the center. I tried turning it counter clockwise, but it will not budge. Should it be that tight? I could put pliers on it, but I don't want to risk cracking it.
I had this problem a few days ago while out of town. A dealer drained out a small amount of water, but I was unable to see how the Tech did it. I figured it would now be easy to turn after the Tech did the first drain, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
What's the secret for openning the drain valve????
Thanks for the help.

AZMike and DPower -- Thanks for the bump!
As of about 20 minutes ago, I found out the secret, and that is, drop the passenger side front wheel liner so you can get at it from the bottom! I was able to get some leverage on it and it finally came loose, but it was still tight, even then.
Actually, the real secret is that is never should have been that tight in the first place. Now that I got it loose and re-tightened it myself, it is no big deal to loosen it from over the top of the fender.
The hard part was poping out some of the liner clips. I wedged a screw driver in the slot between the big and small posts. Some popped right out, but some are rather mangled after having to put pliers to them. Being in the sun at 105 degrees only added to the pleasure.
Unfortuneately, I am still getting a water in fuel message. I think it would be better for me to post a new note describing the indicator problem.

Sounds like you may have a bad batch of fuel. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifAre you using an additive, Stanadyne Performane Formula, is the one GM approves of.

Silveradogs,
That is what I thought when I first saw the message. I spoke to the manager of the station where I filled up the day before the message appeared, and he said they stick the tank with a paste every morning and there was no sign of water.
I have added Stanadyne a couple of times over the last several fill-ups. The message goes away for a while then intermittently shows up on a regular basis. It appears to appear more frequently after adding the Stanadyne. I guess this makes sense since Stanadyne is a demulsifier.
I mentioned in my new posting that I am not sure if there is water in the fuel or there is a sensor problem. Since thunder heads are starting to move into the Phoenix Valley right now, I thought I would quit for this evening, then mess with it so more tomorrow.
