Engine shipments to DaimlerChrysler AG, Dodge's parent company, increased 30 percent compared with year-ago figures, with sales of more than 40,000 engines, Solso said.

Is is from an July 24, 2004 article that can be found http://www.indystar.com/articles/9/164923-6289-031.html

The way I see it GM is way ahead of Dodge in Diesel sell. These numbers are probably a few weeks old, so if this is 40-45% of the total yearly sells, then GM will out sell them by about 30,000 units. Not the 3,000 some have said. GM builds 150,000 units per year, (They are/were talking about raising it to 200,000 units) about 10,000 of these will go to the 4500 and 5500. So that leaves 140,000 going into the pickup trucks. (All 2500HD, 3500 srw, and 3500 drw) While Dodge would be selling about 100,000 units. This still leaves GM with 10,000 to set on the lot un-sold. Which ain't going to happen.

What a difference a quiet and powerful engine can make.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I'm not sure what that means... 40,000 for the second quarter? That's what the whole story seems to be based on... strong second quarter.

That would make it 160,000 for the year http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Makes sense since most stories I've read put GM and Dodge diesel truck sales close.... until now. Thanks Mike

Agree with the comment about a "quiet" engine plus the rising cost of gasoline has made it more attractive to own a diesel powered vehicle in general.

Last I saw. Chevy was outselling dodge by a point or two. Both are closing the gap on Ford. Ford buyers are a very loyal group but the 6.0 threw a monkey wrench in the works.

All my friends including myself were fed up with the issues with Ford.. Then, we have the Diesel engine with "aluminum" heads??? We all have Dodges now...

I've had a few Chevys -- Love the trucks, but it was a challenge keeping them running. My last one (a 2003) was in the shop for warranty work 35 times. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif I was going to buy an '04 Duramax, but they told me that any change in tire size would permenantly void every bit of the bumper to bumper. soooo--- I looked at the Fords and Dodges. I went with an '04 Cummins because they have a great reputation and awesome torque.

It was nice of the dealer to re-program my tire size free of charge when I upgraded the tires 5 sizes. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Don't get me wrong -- I love the Chevy's, just couldn't keep mine running. Maybe I had a couple lemons.

Listen - I don't have a problem with Cummins, so you know I'm not in this forum to stir the pot - I like 'em. But come on! It's time to come up with a new angle to belittle the DMAX. Injectors - Fine! But drop the aluminum head jab. Its been a great big non-issue. I have not heard of an issue yet directly related to the employment of an Aluminum Alloy cylinder head, not that there haven't been any - but I haven't heard of any. Head gaskets a little, but I would dare say no more than any other power plant. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a flame throwing contest now. Sales are up, life is good - I guess if you own GM or DC shares. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

To be perfectly honest... GM voiding the warranty for tire size is pretty lame and I don't think most of the dealerships go along with it.

Now Dodge on the other hand sucks when it comes to warranty work that's legit and due. They seem to try a bit too hard to get out of doing warranty work.. at least that has been my experience and experience of some others I've read about.

Maybe it's just me but GM was always great with warranty work. I'm new to the Dodge scene but first impressions on warranty work has not been good. Hopefully I won't have many more times to compare.Edited by: hoot

Hoot

A good friend of mine has one fine Dodge with 6 speed, has had problems with slack in trans and howling diff and factory won't do anything after several tries to repair. They (dealer) won't take it back on trade for a different one and now it is headed for the Judges and lawyers. Truck has less than 5k and he is letting it set till it is over with.

That doesn't sound like valued customer appreciation

Hopefully it's not going to haunt me. I can be a very unappreciative customer.

I was just looking at your 04 Cummins there hoot and my brother also did the Hummer wheel conversion to his Hemi Ram Quadcab. He told me they had to drill a new lug pattern which ruins the integrity of the wheel.

Lug pattern for 2500 8-lug is identical. You only need to open up the center hole slightly. Is his truck a 1500 6 lug?

Well nevermind I just talked to him and he said all he had to do was open the center hole slightly to, but he did it himself and it took him an hour per wheel. I believe he has the 3500 though.
