: LLY block with LB7 parts?? Will it work?

If you did not see my thread in the LB7 discussion, my motor has some extra holes in it ;) . I am looking into motor/block options and need to get an idea soon. If I purchased a LLY motor, what do I need to do to make it work? What would stay and go externally and internally? Any ideas...thoughts?

Thanks!

What about an LBZ also. I've heard all the short blocks will interchange. Anyone know for sure??

I would like to know this as well. Can we use LB7 parts in LLY and vice versa? Can you actually take a LLY, LBZ and LB7 and interchange them?

We know the heads are differant between the LB7 and the LLY. What about the rest?

Short block, (pistons, block, crank) will bolt to LB7 heads, and other parts. Also gives you the lower compression, had to have some head work done, minimal, custom tuning is also needed if you are running a LB7 computer. Might be a bit of a headache, the only reason to do this is to get the stronger block, rods, and crank. You could buy these parts aftermarket, might be a better choice, but sometimes a shortblock is cheaper.

LB7 and LLY have the same compression ratios.....dont they?? Im almost positive I remember Eric saying they were the same.

IIRC, LB7 and LLY short blocks will interchange without issue. You can use an LBZ short for the LLY/LB7 but not the other way.

If thats the case, you should go with the LBZ short block to get the beefier bottom end and pistons.

i was referring to the lbz, why would you go with an lly short block?!?!?!?!? pointless.
