My cousin has a 2002 high output cummins and has always been the sneeky type if you know what I mean. For exsample he got an edge box and told me all he did was put a smaller elbow on the wastegate and it gave him 35 lbs of boost. I new he was fibbing with all the smoke at low boost levels. I'm a fan of any diesel that can put on a good show but whats with all the secrets. Now he is telling me he hasn't done anything else to it but put a cold air intake on it "that really make the turbo whistle loud" but he says that it getting over 40 lbs of boost(I'm thinking aftermarket turbo by the way he operates) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifIs he being sneaky again or can you get this much boost from these few mods. Inquiring mind want to know thanks for any replys.

I have an 04 with the Edge EZ with the boost elbow installed, Airraid intake, 5" exhaust. Stock I was getting 22 pounds. After those mods, I get 32.

I'm thinking about stacking a TST PowermaxCR. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

35LBS is about right with the comp box on 5x5 with a stock turbo. The smoke is normal for a comp box at low rpm under HEAVY throttle. If he is making 40 psi, then he forgot to tell you he installed injectors too. Also, if really did have only a comp box and nothing else and he installed a larger turbo, he would have lower boost numbers.

Thanks for all the replies it sounds like he's been doing some shopping. How much does a set of injectors cost and what stage/hp would they be in order to get 40 lbs of boost. Also it doesn't look like it smokes to much more than it did when he was getting 35 lbs of boost. I wonder if thats why he has a fuel press. gauge installed now http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

If he is getting 40psi he probably has about 80hp injectors(stage 2), which depending on the vendor, range from 500-600.

Yes he does. If he is really making 40lbs on HO, he has injectors. I know I own an HO with the same setup. The newer trucks will make more boost because of tighter exhaust housings. You can't compare the 03-04 motors to the older ones.

If I got on it at a light, I was peging my 30 pound gauge. So I want out and got a 50.

I added the Edge EZ and the boost elbow. On level 5, I'm pushing right at 35 lbs WOT.

I was hitting 48 with my injectors and edge drag comp. Way past the stock turbos effeciency range. 36 is good, 38 is ok, 40 is bad, anything above 42 is really bad. 40psi sounds like maybe even stage 3 injectors with an edge comp. You can always tell by the smoke show. I could blot out the sun.

the 600's are putting out that kind of boost for sure... on my 305/555, the factory WG setting is 23psi and it will creap up to 25-26 psi on a hard pull in the higher rpm range

Yep, same here. The max I have seen on my 555 is 26 lbs of boost.
