here in illinois we got a bunch of ice and snow and i was driving down a unplowed road and busted through this big drift and it ripped of the plastic air dam piece under the bumper. Why do they need to put that cheep plastic crap on the front of a pickup truck?

WOW... i plowed through a pile of leaves once ):h and broke part of my grill. Live and learn i guess. Never had mine rip off and i plow. Could be the harness is protecting me from ripping it off. Went off-road with my friend in his 2005 1500 and ripped his dam off when we got stick in some mud. There really aren't held on that well

If they replaced every plastic, resin, rubber, composite, or pot metal part on our trucks with steel, plus made the sheet metal .090 thick like it used to be on some old cars, not only would the truck weigh twice to three times as much, it would cost twice to three times as much too.

Out of curiosity, how fast were you going when you hit the drift?

I hate that air damn. I ripped off the plain plastic one on my 93 yukon and it looked a ton better. Unfortuantely on my 03' that is where the Fogs are located so I must wait till I can afford a Buckstop or Ranchand Front end and bee done with all that chrome and plastic garbage

BTW, I thought that it may affect airflow and cooling, but that is probably a stretch

I've pulled every plastic air dam off of every truck I've owned (some came off by themselves!!), except this newer model Chev. I wish GM designed their bumpers so you could pull the plastic off these w/o it looking retarded.
