: Is this a burst or turbo bark?
tbone1227 07-24-2004, 03:50 PM trying to figure this out - ill be getting w/ dieslepower to try and figure it out with tech 2 but am hoping for some input. Under WOT i hear and feel something happening, doesnt happen all the time - but im not sure if this is a burst or turbo bark - its like its missing, after it takes off from WOT there will be a slight lag/jerk and a coughing sound that i can hear ?? I have the suncoast stage 3 and run the TTS tow tune stacked with Edge level 5. Any help would be great and possibly a mod i can make if any ?? I will keep you posted on my progress with Nick as well, thanks
PEANUTGRWR 07-24-2004, 04:18 PM SOUNDS LIKE A BURST TO ME
DSTRBD 07-24-2004, 05:51 PM Sounds like what i had with the Edge beta unit. The turbo would bark twice between the 3-4 and 4-5 shifts. Didn't do it though until I got the Stage III.
Crawler 07-24-2004, 06:04 PM Does it do it during a shift or in the middle of a gear.
If its duing a shift its more than likely turbo bark. The turbo will bark hen it loses the required drive pressure on the exhaust side to keep the turbo going.
If the tranny is in a specific gear not in a shift then it could be a burst.
We really need some more info - pedal position, boost, gear, etc...
tbone1227 07-24-2004, 07:53 PM ok, just got back and am gonna ring nick up as i missed him earlier and will try to figure this out. In regards to ?'s above - it does it a little all over on WOT but I have run a few tests on own and found that it will do it with o/d locked out, TC locked and WOT in 4th - and will do in 5th gear locked as well if that helps.
SpoolinTurbo 07-24-2004, 09:58 PM turbo bark is what you will hear at the end of the burnout that I made a video of... soon as I let up on the gas you hear the turbo bark. is that what you are hearing?

tbone1227 07-24-2004, 10:08 PM not sure - i cant open that file, nothing seems to happen no matter what i try ????
chevmeister 07-24-2004, 10:23 PM try

hes got 2 http://
He's got an extra "http://" in the link you need to get rid of and it'll load.
Bronco 07-24-2004, 10:24 PM You can also hear barking if you ever rock your truck. When you are stuck in the mud/snow and rev up your truck, you then put the brakes on and throw it in reverse. The turbo Woofs like a St. Bernard. Comes from right where the turbo is. Does not sound pretty.
Chevmeister, you're just a hair quicker than me...
Wonder what the reaction time was...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
Dawgj77 07-24-2004, 11:45 PM would somone break it down for me as too what a turbo bark is? and what a Burst is? this is my first diesel...so im definatly in the learning stages of this....Thanks in advance
Jared
tbone1227 07-25-2004, 02:15 AM thanks for the link and info - i have not heard that sound before thats for sure, mine sounds more like a deep cough if i had to describe it
Amric 07-25-2004, 09:15 AM Sounds like bursting to me. You can also tell bursting by the on and off of the black smoke trail. Right when the burst happens, the black smoke will clean up, and then come on again when the power comes back on. Yours sounds very minor, as a large burst will throw the truck around.
tbone1227 07-25-2004, 11:43 AM AMRIC - it does clear up like you stated then will start again. so if it is bursting, what is the fix ? I was thinking of running the FASS Pump and fuel pick up that trippen has - will that help me out ??
chevmeister 07-25-2004, 12:07 PM would somone break it down for me as too what a turbo bark is? and what a Burst is? this is my first diesel...so im definatly in the learning stages of this....Thanks in advance
Jared
burst is when the truck doesnt have enought fuel to supply the injectors. people experienceing theis are running big tunes and the fuel delivery system cant handle it. never experienced it personally, so i cant explain the feeling. turbo bark is from having the turbo supplying boost and the motor all of a sudden not needing it. since the intake is now pressurized by the time the turbo spools down it actually spins backwards. hence the bark. neither a good thing.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
tbone1227 07-25-2004, 08:21 PM WFT - i havent really been running this stack with edge too hard until a couple of days ago, figured i would let everything get figured out for a couple of weeks then start stomping on it, and everytime i stomp on it im hearing this chit - what gives. ill have to run some tests to figure out whats up and maybe just have to get rid of the edge if its a programming issue ?? im just pissed now as i cant stomp on it like i should be able to http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
tbone1227 07-26-2004, 12:55 PM ok, more food for thought - i lowered the edge to level 4 and am playing around with the boost settings, it seems to be better on level 4 and boost at 3 right now - im going to run some WOT runs today on streets and highway to see if that cleared it up. The funny thing is that im not running huge HP gains, just the TTS tow tune and edge
Amric 07-26-2004, 04:21 PM Make sure to do a run from 0mph to WOT. Mine would not burst when doing a 5th gear rolling WOT run, but would when going from off idle to WOT.
tbone1227 07-26-2004, 04:31 PM thanks amric, will be trying very shortly - what did you have to do for a fix ??
Amric 07-26-2004, 04:46 PM No fix yet. I am currently using the VA200+ for power, and the Quad 215 just to remove the speed limit, adjust for tire size and read codes. I tried the 215hp setting with all three setting on the VA and they all burst. I have not yet tried the 110hp, 135hp, or 165hp setting on the Quad yet, but others have told me they will all burst.
I don't think there is much to be gained by the stack anyway, as the black smoke it telling me that air is more of a problem than fuel right now.
tbone1227 07-27-2004, 01:28 AM well im leaning more towards bursting and not turbo bark as i had a buddy of mine who runs a shop here come along for the ride tonight and that was his take on it, along with what ive learned from you guys here - i could only manage to run the TTS Tow Tune with the Edge on Level 3 at the highest - w/ boost set on 3, but above that sucked, it even managed to burst on level 3 but did it intermittantly, not all the time like the levels above that
on edit - i tested it with tech 2 ( thanks nick ) and it looks like its the ole turbo bark that most are getting with the edge http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif , and not a burst... now - what to do ?? i guess ill be on the phone with edge to see if they have a fix in store. ps - it barks stacked or unstackedEdited by: tbone1227
05LLY2500HD 11-11-2004, 10:20 PM Any more info on this subject?
Anyone?
tbone1227 11-11-2004, 11:45 PM funny you should ask - i got rid of the first edge unit i had and have
another one now, new version i believe and NO BARK !! it wont run
well stacked with the TTS Tow Tune ( probably because the TTS is more
precisely tuned and dialed in, especially the turbo ), but it will
run... the edge will run better stacked with the power pup though and
make loads of power. I dont like how the edge runs though on its
own, i dont like its characteristics, but thats JMO, it will run sooooo
much better stacked with a down loader http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
mark thomas 12-16-2004, 12:21 PM MIne sounds like a shotgun under wot right after going into 2nd gear, is this a burst, also I am at 32 psi?
mark thomas 12-16-2004, 12:22 PM Also, what is this quad 215 speed limit remover, and where can i get one?
Los Lobos 12-16-2004, 12:47 PM Mine does it at 3250-3500 RPM. Feels like hitting a rev limiter in a gas motor. I think the tranny is spooling to fast to hit the shift and it is running into fuel issues because of the over rev.
jetboatjockey 12-16-2004, 01:22 PM t bone iam running bd pup, my edge is back to factory getting what ever. you once posted the levels running bully dog pup and edge. i was wanting to find out best levels to use. thanks nelson
