that I intend to swap into my '82 C 30 that currently has a well worn 6.2 NA.
The 6.5 came with all the goodies, wiring harness(es), ECM, new PMD, turbo(GM 4) and even a 4L80E tranny (with a rebuild kit). 135K on the motor and trans.
Before install, I plan to tear down and go thru everything, including magnafluxing the block, etc. The install I'm planning will be with an NV4500 tranny, the '97+ cooling mods, and propane fumigation. (Building for towing)
The main question I have is regarding the electronics. I'm a keep it simple kinda guy, and the wiring harnesses, and the fly by wire accelerator pedal look very complicated. Add to that the problems with the PMD/FSD that I keep reading about has me wondering if there isn't a simpler way. Can I just use a 6.2 IP, wire up the manual glow plug switch like I have it wired now on the 6.2, and be ready to haul? Or does that ECM have it's hooks into all kinds of other stuff I'm not thinking about that will cause me big headaches? Keep in mind I'm not concerened with "creature" comforts, like air conditioning, or ABS brakes, and won't be using the electronic tranny anyway, just want to make sure I can get this to run properly without the ECM.

in 93 the 6.5L had mechanical injection, i believe all you need is a mechanical injection pump (db2 i believe) and you should be all set since your using a manual tranny anyways.

Yep - pop the DS4 out and pop in a DB2-4911 from Diesel Pro.

You'll need the injector pipes, also.

Any thoughts on what you're gonna do with that 4l80e?

I read somewhere that fumigating a IDI diesel is a delicate operation (in order to avoid detonation). I know there are several kits out there, -and believe you me, -I have most certainly given it some consideration myself, but I'm a scaredy-pants and don't want to ruin my nice running motor.

I know there's a guy on the forum who makes and sells a kit (the guy that "takes the pain out of 'pane"). I'm sure he will undoubtedly promote it, and he surely knows more about it than I do.

Does anyone else here on the forum have any experience with fogging a 21:1 6.5?

I'm just concerned, -I'd sure hate to see you go through all that work and spend all that money and not have it work out.

Thanks for the info gentlemen, gmctd, when I rig the IP and new lines, I'm assuming I'll be using the same, (new replacements, of course) short injectors that came with the motor, or will I need to retrofit something else in their place?

kimagine, I'm working out of a one car garage and a 10x20 storage shed on the other end of town to deal with all of the projects in my sig line. The 4L80E and kit will have to go asap, along with whatever else I won't be using from this motor, like the rebuilt IP with new PMD, harnesses, etc. Anyone with any interest can PM me.

Ratman, I got to have all the power I can get for towing. I considered a Cummins install but decided the fab work would be cost prohibitive. The "pain out of propane" kit is one I was most considering, seems to be priced right, and appears to work along simple lines. Like I said, I like simple. My GF tells me simple suits me well, whatever she means by that....

Anyway, started tearing it down today, got the pan off, will have the heads off tomorrow, then I'll know what I'm in for.
Thanks again

PM sent and yes, the 93's used a mechanical pump. The db-2 4911 as mentioned above. That is what I have. They can be had for less that the electric one that you have. You may be able to work out a trade with someone that has/works with both types and has them on hand. I'm sure you can easily get rid of the other items you mentioned as well.:)
That particular IP, harness etc....will not work for me but can pass the word if needed.
