: Oil drip from Boost Gage

I noticed last night that I have a small amount of oil that drips from my boost gage, located under the dash between the steering wheel and the driver's door. I suppose if I'd put it up higher the oil would drip back into the intake, but I really don't want to do that.

Is this a normal thing?

What kind of gauge? My SPA has a remote sender.

Got Juice?

Unless you have a seal going in your turbo you should not have any oil to speak of in your boost line.

Oil is getting into the intake stream..... Houston... you might have a problem

Oil filled gauge with a leak?

It's a 0-15psi DiProcal gage from Heath. Are they oil filled? The truck sure seems to run fine. Seems if oil was getting burned in the engine that it'd smoke and stink a lot.

what good is a 15 psi anyway?

It works perfectly for me in this application. I don't have any intentions on building a hot-rod or sled puller with this truck, and stock 6.5's go into limp mode if you boost much more than that anyways.

Back to the original question...is the DiPricol gage I have oil filled? Does anybody else here have this gage on their 6.5? And if it's not oil filled and the oil is actually coming from the intake, what/where are the leaky seals that could be the culprit?

Thanks!

Stock boost can peg that gauge.

Stock boost can peg that gauge.

I've got a home made boost controller under the hood that is set so that the boost never exceeds about 12 psi. So come on guys... can we please stop bashing my little 15psi gage?

I need to figure out where that oil drip is coming from.

PS: Hey Hoot... did you find a cure for the Dodge death wobble? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif (Just givin' ya crap for picking on my little gage http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif)Edited by: w_huisman

No cure yet. But it didn't have it stock and it won't have it when I'm done. Trust me.

12 psi... man what's up with that?

OOOps 6.5 TD... WOW that's awful high http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Oh BTW: 6.5TD's are known to push crankcase oil through the intake. It's normal and not a problem.Edited by: hoot

Geeze man! Be nice! First ya pick on my little gage, then ya poke fun at my truck! OUCH! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I'm still tweaking the spring setting on the boost controller. As of right now, the highest boost I've seen is 11.5psi and that's stuffing the pedal into the floor from highway speeds. Cruises down the highway with 3~4psi at 60mph unloaded. So it might be set a little high yet, but some guys have them set higher, some lower. I'd like to be on the lower end of the spectrum for longevity reasons, so I'll probably end up loosening the spring a little more.

Anyways.... are you serious about the crankcase pushing oil thru the intake being normal? I can't quite tell if you're serious or if you're just giving me a hard time again. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif I was new to diesels as of last fall, so I have a billion and one things to learn yet.

Thanks!Edited by: w_huisman

No, I'm serious. It is normal. There is a tube connected to the intake plenum if I remember correctly that allow the engine to reburn crankase fumes. My 97 used to get seepage around the turbo intake connections. GM said to clean up the connections an apply some sealant and reinstall the tubes.

I don't knock 6.5's often. They run good but as some people say.. pant under load.Edited by: hoot

Great! Nothing to worry about then. Thanks Hoot.

when i had my 6.5TD tahoe, i never did notice any oil getting into the boost gauge i had on it. the PCV type valve on the left valve cover did drip some oil and the turbo compressor wheel was always a little wet with oil. and before i disabled the egr system [for testing purposes of coursehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif] the intake was turning into sludge. not good.

my truck would peg at about 14psi with i made my own boost controller [vacuum accumulator with restricted oriface and checkvalve made from some 3" abs pipe] and settle back down to normal setting when the accumulator drained...
