I live up in Vermont and it is starting to get to be that time of the year when it gets pretty cold out. This will be the first winter that i have had my duramax and i was wondering if anyone uses or has any good advice on cold weather fuel additives so the fuel won't gel up. Thanks and let me know.

i live in des moines iowa and i dont really think that it will get cold enough to do anything to the truck. i could be wrong. just in case you could use any additive that says it is for gelling. also the way that i understand it is that they put non gelling additives in the underground tanks. this is just what i have heard some one else will comment.

You can use Stanadyne Performance formula.

That and Racor's formula are the only 2 offically ok'd by GM

Check out www.stanadyne.com for a dealer near you.

stanadyne, amsoil, diesel service are some pretty good additives.

I've used stanadyne for almost 3 winters now up here in alaska with great results...no gelling even at -50F....I have also used power service when I couldn't get stanadyne.

AMSOIL makes a good additive.

Check out AV lubricants in the Vendor section. They sell a product called Primrose... I have used it with great results. I have also used the power service... they make an emergency addative that is used when your fuel is already gelled IIRC.

If you buy your diesel in Vermont or anywhere it gets cold in winter then it is a winter blend that will not gel in freezing temps. But a good additive will help prevent water from emulsifying in your tank and freezing in your fuel system. I use FPPF Total Power, available online from Kennedy, one of the supporting venndors on this site.
