just got a 2004.5 duramax. dealer said it would have the auto airbag

sensor in the seat but did not. he then said that we could put it in the dash like the older models. went threw all the politics to sign off for gm etc. now he says that the service dept cn not order the switch threw gm and after markt is too much. my grip is if the switch in my 2002 duramax would get broken wouldnt you be able to get a replacement for that. Any one out there delt with this thanks

If its a crew cab there is no switch or sensor. It is standard on the ext. cab and reg. cab models. Unless yours is a crew I don't know why its not there.

I installed an aftermarket from AOI Electric. $159.00 plus shipping. I tried the GM route but we couldn't be sure on the right switch to use even using the VIN number.

I understand that it is not in the crewcab. My question was why cant a switch be put in like the 02 models. all the switch is is a on off switch. my dealer said that the swicth is no longer available as a individual part, want to know if hes pulling my leg or not. Like I said before I already have done the liability paperwork to sign off legally.

I would assume you could put the swtich in yourself. Your dealer if smart will not do anything to affect the operation of your air bags due to liablility.

I'm sure a it's a liability issue. GM isn't going to sanction any changes to the airbag equipment. As far as the legal stuff goes, a lawyer once told me liability releases aren't worth the paper they're written on.
