If you didn't add the lockout button and reprogram the computer you can't do it. It wasn't standard until 03.

I cant even get my 06 to do it, held the tow/button down for at least 5 or 7 secs and nothing...

Well... shoot! I 'm guessing that i need efi to add the programming huh? For now i guess that i just have to count my shifts and stop after four right?

I just hold down the tow/haul mode button for 4 - 6 seconds and the dash light will appear showing the O/D locked out. My 03 did the same thing. Not sure on the 02.

Would a dealer be able to add the option of locking out overdrive?

I don't think that option is there anymore on the 06 since you have the manual option. You would just need to shift through the gears with the selector and then stay in 4th, at least that is what I would do.

Go to kenedy's web site he has directions on installing your own buton, it even gives you the part # from radioshack. I fyou don't mind taping into your tcm it's very easy to do about an hour. I instaled the optional led light so you know its on, with your truck being an 02 you shouldn't have to get your tcm reconfigured I didn't.

I didn't know that !!

Glad to have an 03, with both Overdrive lockout & Tow-Haul, my buddy's 02 truck only has Tow-haul feature.

I did the same thing. Mine was built in May of '02 and required no reprogramming. Very handy to have when towing in hills or high winds. I use it often.

TSB 02-07-30-051, ask your dealer for a copy of it.
Switch Kit GM # 15174508. Cost in 2002 was $50

See a pic of the switch, post #6.
